BioEISense: A Microfluidic Platform for Real‐Time Monitoring of Staphylococcus aureus Biofilm Formation and the Efficacy of Antibiofilm Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
BioEISense is a microfluidic device with integrated impedance sensors, for real‐time, label‐free monitoring of S. aureus biofilms. In this study, the biofilm culture conditions were optimized to support sensitive and reproducible detection of biofilm formation and eradication under dynamic flow‐through conditions. The system was also validated for both

Characterization of Droplet Formation in Ultrasonic Spray Coating: Influence of Ink Formulation Using Phase Doppler Anemometry and Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study explores how machine learning models, trained on small experimental datasets obtained via Phase Doppler Anemometry (PDA), can accurately predict droplet size (D32) in ultrasonic spray coating (USSC). By capturing the influence of ink complexity (solvent, polymer, nanoparticles), power, and flow rate, the model enables precise droplet control

Investigating the biodiversity of microbial communities in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica: an inter-valley comparison study.

open access: yes, 2009
Extreme environments provide a unique source of often highly adapted and tolerant organisms. Research on organisms in these habitats has led to the discovery of novel and useful compounds and may assist in understanding the impact of global change on ...

Engineering serine metabolism to enhance AOX1 promoter self-induction in formate dehydrogenase-deficient Komagataella phaffii

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories
Background The methylotrophic yeast Komagataella phaffii is a premier host for recombinant protein (rProt) production, which traditionally relies on methanol induction of the alcohol oxidase 1 promoter (P AOX1 ).

Microbial community interactions on a chip

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
Multispecies microbial communities drive most ecosystems on Earth. Chemical and biological interactions within these communities can affect the survival of individual members and the entire community. However, the prohibitively high number of possible interactions within a microbial community has made the characterization of ...

Tunable‐Threshold UV Dosimetry With Programmable Luminescent Tags via Oxygen‐Mediated Room‐Temperature Phosphorescence

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A fully organic UV threshold dosimeter is developed by exploiting the oxygen‐sensitive room‐temperature phosphorescence of a purely organic emitter in a polymer matrix. Upon reaching a specific cumulative UV dose, photochemical oxygen depletion triggers a sharp, high‐contrast emission.

Shaping Carbon Nitrides for Advanced Macrostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review examines how carbon nitride can be shaped through a range of printing and interfacial assembly methods. By bringing together additive manufacturing and liquid–liquid structuring concepts, carbon nitride is moving beyond its traditional powder‐based photocatalyst form toward digitally designed robust macroscale architectures with high design

Lipopeptides as rhizosphere public goods for microbial cooperation

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Cyclic lipopeptides (CLPs) are key bioactive secondary metabolites produced by some plant beneficial rhizobacteria such as Pseudomonas and Bacillus. They exhibit antimicrobial properties, promote induced systemic resistance in plants, and support key ...
