Bamboo Medical Application: A State‐of‐the‐Art Review

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review presents a structured classification of bamboo's current use in healthcare. It organizes applications into medical textiles and medical devices, with further divisions based on function and level of invasiveness. It also examines material utilization based on bamboo's structural role, highlighting how it supports both protective and ...

Intestinal Bacteria Interplay With Bile and Cholesterol Metabolism: Implications on Host Physiology

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Bile is a biological fluid synthesized in the liver, mainly constituted by bile acids and cholesterol, which functions as a biological detergent that emulsifies and solubilizes lipids, thereby playing an essential role in fat digestion.

Dual‐Functional Ingestible Passive Capsules for High‐Throughput Intestinal Sampling with Sealed Containment and Targeted Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
To address challenges in high‐throughput intestinal sampling with sealed containment and target drug delivery, we developed a dual‐functional ingestible passive capsule with a dual‐triggered control system based on pH‐response and mechanical actuation.

Production of Lactic Acid from Seaweed Hydrolysates via Lactic Acid Bacteria Fermentation

open access: yes, 2020
Biodegradable polylactic acid material is manufactured from lactic acid, mainly produced by microbial fermentation. The high production cost of lactic acid still remains the major limitation for its application, indicating that the cost of carbon sources

Soil microbiota and herbivory drive the assembly of tomato plant-associated microbial communities through different mechanisms

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Plant-associated microbial communities are key to shaping many aspects of plant biology. In this study, we tested whether soil microbial communities and herbivory influence the bacterial community of tomato plants and whether their influence in different

Crystallization and preliminary X-ray diffraction analysis of YejM from Salmonella typhimurium: an essential inner membrane protein involved in outer membrane directed cardiolipin transport [version 2; referees: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2017
Salmonella  typhimurium is responsible for over 35% of all foodborne illness related hospitalizations in the United States. This Gram-negative bacterium possesses an inner and an outer membrane (OM), the latter allowing its survival and replication ...

Detection of Protein–Protein Interactions in Escherichia coli With Single Molecule Sensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This article describes a regulatory circuit in Escherichia coli able to detect protein–protein interactions with exquisite sensitivity. The interaction between two hybrid proteins fused to Bordetella pertussis adenylate cyclase and its activator calmodulin triggers a potent cyclic AMP signaling cascade.

Utilization and control of ecological interactions in polymicrobial infections and community-based microbial cell factories [version 1; referees: 3 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2016
Microbial activities are most often shaped by interactions between co-existing microbes within mixed-species communities. Dissection of the molecular mechanisms of species interactions within communities is a central issue in microbial ecology, and our ...
