Calcium, microfilaments and morphogenesis

Life Sciences, 1983
Morphogenesis, the generation of tissue form, is important not only in the embryogenesis of a new individual, but also because a change in morphogenesis may be involved in the establishment of differences between individuals during evolution. Morphogenetic movements are effected in part by coordinated changes in the shapes of individual cells and over ...

Microfilaments and membranes

Current Opinion in Cell Biology, 1993
Microfilaments are intimately involved in many plasma and internal membrane functions. Recent studies of microfilament-membrane linking proteins and non-filamentous myosins implicate microfilaments in diverse functions, including transmembrane signaling and vesicular transport.

The microfilament system and malignancy

Seminars in Cancer Biology, 2008
Increased motile activity, increased rate of cell proliferation and removal of growth inhibiting cell-cell contacts are hallmarks of tumorigenesis. Activation of cell motility and migration is caused by activation of receptors, turning on the growth cycle.

Cytoplasmic microfilaments in plant cells

Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1972
Microfilaments 50–60 A in diameter occur commonly in many elongating cells in stems and roots of twelve species of plants investigated. The microfilaments occur in bundles as cytoplasmic fibers in the peripheral regions of an elongating cell and are usually oriented parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cell.
