An automatic vacuum microgripper
2010 8th World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation, 2010Picking and releasing the micro parts is one of the most important tasks for the microassembly robot. Downsizing the grippers used in the macro world is not suitable to fulfill the manipulation in the micro world because of the different scaling of gravity and adhesion.

An electrowetting based microgripper
2008 51st Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2008In this paper, we present a novel capillary microgripper that can pick up and release micro objects simply by electrowetting. Electrowetting on dielectric (EWOD), a phenomenon which uses electrical potential to manipulate the surface tension of a liquid droplet is utilized to control the lifting forces.

A microgripper using smart piezoelectric actuators
Proceedings. 2000 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2000) (Cat. No.00CH37113), 2002The manipulation of very small objects is one of the most important tasks in microrobotics. Micromanipulators are required in all fields where precise manipulation of very small objects must be performed like microsurgery or assembly of MEMS. It is well known that downsizing the tools used in the macroworld is not appropriate to achieve tasks in the ...

Untethered microgripper-the dexterous hand at microscale
Biomedical Microdevices, 2019Untethered microgrippers that can navigate in hard-to-reach and unpredictable environments are significantly important for biomedical applications such as targeted drug delivery, micromanipulation, minimally invasive surgery and in vivo biopsy. Compared with the traditional tethered microgrippers, the wireless microgrippers, due to the exceptional ...

Tactile microgripper for automated handling of microparts
Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1996Abstract As a part of a microrobot we present a micromachined gripper system which has both sensor and actuator integrated. The actuation principle is based on the bimetallic effect. Measurements show that the actuator has a linear range up to 140 μm tip deflection, which corresponds to an operating power of 80 mW.

Overhung electrostatic microgripper
TRANSDUCERS '91: 1991 International Conference on Solid-State Sensors and Actuators. Digest of Technical Papers, 2002A monolithic microgripper unit suitable for mounting on a micropositioner has been designed and fabricated by a combination of surface and bulk micromachining. The unit consists of a silicon die (7*5 mm), a 1.5-mm-long support cantilever made from p/sup +/-substrate material and protruding from the die, and a 400- mu m-long polysilicon microgripper ...

Design and control of a teleoperated microgripper for microsurgery
Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2002A remotely controlled microgripper has been developed as an end-effector for a six-degree-of-freedom force-reflecting motion-scaling system. The microgripper is small and lightweight, and features relatively high force and stroke compared to other designs.

Modelling and control of a bio-inspired microgripper
International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management, 2010A biologically inspired microgripper has been considered with its kinematic model. The dynamic model of the gripper has been developed considering the system with its equivalent lumped inertia, stiffness and damping parameters. The biomimetic gripper developed is conceptually similar to an agonist-antagonistic mechanism. This mechanism is most commonly

Fabrication of an Electrothermally Actuated Electrostatic Microgripper
International Journal of Nonlinear Sciences and Numerical Simulation, 2002A novel electrostatic microgripper, which can handle micro objects with the electrostatic force, is designed and fabricated. It consists of gripping part with one inner and two outer electrodes, and releasing part with an electrothermal actuator. It grips micro objects using electric field generated between the electrodes, and releases them using the ...

Tetherless Microgrippers With Transponder Tags
Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems, 2011We describe the concept of utilizing tetherless microstructured grippers with attached silicon (Si)-based chips for event-based gripping. Grippers were fabricated using photolithography, and Si chips were bonded to them using a solder-based directed assembly approach.
