Optimization of Surface Roughness in Micromilling

Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2010
Micromilling is a process that utilizes end mills that typically vary in diameter from 100 to 1000 µm and have edge radii that vary from 1 to 10 µm. In the present article, the machining of microsurfaces on aluminium alloy is made, using conventional CNC (Computer numerical control) milling center and commercially available miniature tools. In order to

Chip formation analysis in micromilling operation

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2009
In mechanical micromachining, understanding the chip formation mechanism is critical to optimize the machining parameters and improve the workpiece performance. In this work, the entire slot micromilling process on Al6061-T6 by one flute carbide cutter was simulated by means of finite element method (FEM).

Force modelling in micromilling of channels

International Journal of Nanomanufacturing, 2015
The interest on micro cutting processes is proved by the attention of industries on this topic. This trend moves the researches on micro cutting toward different aspects. A modelling procedure for forecasting cutting forces in microcutting, considering all phenomena involved in micro scale, can be of interest for industries allowing the evaluation of ...

Deformation of thin parts in micromilling

CIRP Annals, 2016
Abstract Deformation is one of the major problems in the micromilling of thin parts. Deformation of thin parts is mainly due to the machining induced residual stresses remained in the part and directly affects the dimensions and form tolerances of microparts.

Parametric and Non-Parametric Identification of Micromilling Dynamics

Proceedings of the 4M/ICOMM2015 Conference, 2015
Monitoring and control of micromilling process represents a challenging task in metal cutting. The lack of static and dynamic stiffness due to the small tool size represents one of the most important issues that has to be tackled in order to provide satisfactory control of the process.

Micromilling Strategies Impact on Thin Walls Geometrical Quality

Proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Multi-Material Micro Manufacture, 2012
Micromilling is one of the most versatile tooling processes: three-dimensional features can be effectively manufactured on moulds and dies achieving good accuracy performance. Typical and challenging features for these microcomponents are high aspect ratio thin walls.

Surface finish in micromilling

2011
