Implantable Microarray Patch: Engineering at the Nano and Macro Scale for Sustained Therapeutic Release via Synthetic Biodegradable Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
This review focuses on the application of synthetic biodegradable microarray patches (MAPs) in sustained drug delivery. Compared to conventional MAPs which release drugs into the skin in an immediate manner, these implantable MAPs release drugs into skin microcirculation gradually as the biodegradable polymers degrade, thus offering sustained release ...

Nano-Layered Microneedles for Transcutaneous Delivery of Polymer Nanoparticles and Plasmid DNA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Multilayer-coated microneedles achieve transcutaneous delivery of plasmid DNA to the viable epidermis. Cy3-labeled plasmid DNA encoding luciferase (yellow) is deposited on biodegradable microneedle arrays through multilayer self-assembly and then ...

Spider Silk–Integrated Biomimetic Micropillars With Dual Adhesion for Improved Wound Hemostasis and Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The patch mimics the dual physicochemical adhesion mechanisms of gecko toe micropillars and spider silk proteins, enabling strong interfacial bonding via partially cured micropillars. Its facile fabrication allows customization for precision medicine, while its motion responsiveness offers potential for real‐time wound monitoring.

Flexible, Integrated‐Porous Microneedle Sensor for Biofluid Sampling and On‐Site Biomarker Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A paper‐integrated porous PGA microneedle array patch capable of both high strength and absorption capacity is proposed. With an image‐processing system, an optimized colorimetric sensor achieves a low limit of detection of 0.09 mm in cholesterol.

Vaccine delivery with microneedle skin patches in nonhuman primates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Transcutaneous drug delivery from planar skin patches is effective for small-molecule drugs and skin-permeable vaccine adjuvants. However, to achieve efficient delivery of vaccines and other macromolecular therapeutics into the skin, penetration of the ...
