We present the design and implementation of the Virtual Microscope, a software system employing a client/server architecture to provide a realistic emulation of a high power light microscope. The system provides a form of completely digital telepathology, allowing simultaneous access to archived digital slide images by multiple clients.

We have constructed a correlation microscope based on the Mirau interferometer configuration using a thin silicon nitride film beam splitter, and we have developed a method to extract the amplitude and phase information of the reflected signal from a sample located at the microscope object plane.

Microscopic polyangiitis is a systemic vasculitis affecting smal-l and medium-sized vessels and is characteristically associated with a focal and segmental necrotizing glomerulonephritis. It may present as a pulmonary-renal syndrome with rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis and alveolar hemorrhage, but the pattern of disease will vary according to ...

Microscopic colitis that is not so microscopic
International Journal of Colorectal Disease, 2015Dear Editor: Microscopic colitis (MC) was formerly considered rare but is now gaining recognition as a common cause of chronic nonbloody diarrhea. When other causes of chronic diarrhea such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and infectious colitis have been ruled out, a colonoscopy with multiple biopsies of the colon ...

The paper describes an autopsy case of a 69-year-old woman with microscopic polyangiitis lasting about 1.5 months despite intensive treatment. She had generalized productive vasculitis, extracapillary productive glomerulonephritis, adult respiratory distress syndrome with focal pneumonia, isolated lung atelectasis, splenic infarction, and toe and ...

Microscopic hematuria is a common problem that may affect up to 13 per cent of the population. The number of RBCs identified in the urine sediment is dependent, in part, upon the technique used in performing the urinalysis. The exact number of RBCs normally excreted into the urine has been difficult to establish.

AbstractThe objective is the most crucial image‐forming component of a microscope. A knowledge of the many types of objectives available and their characteristics is critical to the selection of appropriate objectives for image cytometry. This unit discusses aberrations in image formation and their correction, construction and types of objectives, and ...

The operating microscope has transformed the surgery of glaucoma from a hit and miss affair to a very precise art. This is not to say that adult glaucoma surgery cannot be undertaken without sophisticated aids. Of course, it can, but as our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of the glaucoma improves, so do the methods of dealing with it.
