Field evaluation of the miniature direct-on-blood PCR nucleic acid lateral flow immunoassay (mini-dbPCR-NALFIA) for the detection of Plasmodium falciparum in high seasonal malaria transmission setting in Burkina Faso

open access: yesMalaria Journal
Introduction Accurate diagnosis of malaria, caused by Plasmodium falciparum, remains challenging in endemic resource-limited settings. Molecular diagnostics, like PCR, offer a higher sensitivity, but are often impractical at the point-of-care.

The Ratio of Smear-Negative Tuberculosis in Sindh: An insight using Fluorescence Microscopy

open access: yesJLUMHS, 2017
BACKGROUND: Sputum smear microscopy is the most useful tool used for the screening of presumptive tuberculosis cases. Conventionally Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) based staining is used to microscopically screen sputum from the presumptive Tuberculosis Cases ...

p190A/ARHGAP35 and p190B/ARHGAP5 proteins in endometrial cancer: a novel cancer‐relevant paralog interplay

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies ARHGAP5, in addition to the frequently mutated ARHGAP35, as significantly mutated in endometrial cancer. Mutations in both genes co‐occur and are associated with their correlated downregulation. Functional CRISPR studies show that both paralogs regulate similar pathways, including actin cytoskeleton organization.

Mutant p53R273H disrupts PDPK1 homodimerization and contributes to PDPK1 activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
How mutant p53R273H drives AKT signaling is unclear. We show that p53R273H, but not wild‐type, directly binds PDPK1 via a mutation‐dependent conformational change. This interaction disrupts inhibitory PDPK1 homodimerization and enhances AKT phosphorylation.

Diagnosis of malaria among children in Sokoto: A comparison of microscopy and Rapid Diagnostic Tests

open access: yesUMYU Journal of Microbiology Research
Malaria is a life-threatening disease primarily found in tropical countries, and it is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among children. Diagnosis of malaria depends largely on clinical presentations and laboratory diagnosis.

Reprogramming tumor cells with LCOR mRNA nanotherapy to enhance immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LCOR (Ligand‐dependent corepressor) mRNA encapsulated in polymeric nanoparticles restores LCOR activity in tumor cells, constraining aggressive tumor cell states and increasing tumor immunogenicity. This reprogramming makes tumor cells more vulnerable to T‐cell attack and enhances their response to immune‐checkpoint immunotherapy.

Role of Light Emitting Diode (LED) Fluorescence Microscopy in the Diagnosis of Smear Negative Pulmonary Tuberculosis.

open access: yes, 1970
Light emitting diode (LED) fluorescence microscopy offers well described benefits compared with brightfield microscopy by Ziehl-Neelsen stained sputum, even which are smear negative.

False-Negative Rate of Gram-Stain Microscopy for Diagnosis of Septic Arthritis: Suggestions for Improvement

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, 2014
We quantify the false-negative diagnostic rate of septic arthritis using Gram-stain microscopy of synovial fluid and compare this to values reported in the peer-reviewed literature.

Optimization of seminal extracellular vesicle isolation protocols for cancer biomarker analysis using proteomic profiling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This paper shows that size‐exclusion chromatography and sequential centrifugation applied to seminal plasma enrich for different populations of extracellular vesicles. This may significantly affect the detection and analysis of extracellular vesicle‐associated cancer biomarkers.
