Mid-infrared light sources are attracting attention for use in spectroscopic sensing, thermal imaging, and infrared countermeasures. Integration of these sources on Si-based waveguides allows for more functional and complex photonic circuits to be integrated on a single chip. This paper focuses on the key aspects of this integrated platform.

Mid-infrared spectromicroscopy beamline at the Canadian Light Source
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2007Abstract The Canadian Light Source is commissioning a mid-infrared (mid-IR) beamline to support a user facility for spectromicroscopy in the areas of biological and materials sciences. The bend magnet beamline on port 01B1-1 obtained first light in 2005 and beam transport to the spectrometer in 2006.

Swept-source OCT using pulsed mid-infrared light
Label-free Biomedical Imaging and Sensing (LBIS) 2019, 2019A swept-source optical coherence tomography (OCT) system using mid-infrared light is demonstrated using commercially available light source and photodetectors. The light source is a tunable external cavity quantum cascade laser (QCL) with four laser modules and a wavelength range of 5.4μm – 12.8μm. The laser output is pulsed and has a maximum allowable

Mid-Infrared Light Sources Using Parametric Amplification in Silicon Nanophotonic Wires
Frontiers in Optics 2012/Laser Science XXVIII, 2012Progress toward realizing silicon-based mid-IR light sources will be reviewed. Using silicon nanophotonic wire parametric amplifiers as compact high-gain elements, synchronously-pumped wavelength-tunable mid-IR optical parametric oscillators and broadband supercontinuum sources have been demonstrated.

Mid-infrared light sources at room temperature based on lead chalcogenides
SPIE Proceedings, 2004We report on the development of epitaxial thin film materials for optical pumped light emitting devices in the wavelength range of 4-5 μm. The active layers are lead selenide (PbSe) thin films grown by molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) on single crystalline, infrared transparent BaF2 substrates. The electrical properties of the layers were determined by van

GeSn-based light sources and photoconductors towards integrated photonics for the mid-infrared
2017 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meeting Series (SUM), 2017GeSn-based optically pumped lasers and photoconductors have been systematically investigated. The operation wavelength of these devices covers 2–3 μm. Since GeSn technique is fully compatible with current CMOS process, the GeSn-based devices can be widely used in the area of Si integrated photonics.

Rapidly-tunable mid-infrared coherent light source with difference frequency generation
2006 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and 2006 Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference, 2006We have demonstrated broadly tunable mid-infrared generation from 5 mum to12 mum by difference frequency generation pumped with an electronically-tuned-Ti:sapphire laser. Rapid- and random-access of wavelength is realized in the mid-infrared region.

Abstract The potential of Fabry Perot Quantum Cascade (QC) lasers for transmission measurements of aqueous samples was assessed. For this purpose two lasers, one lasing in the region of the bending vibration of water at 1650 cm −1 , and the other in the water window at 1080 cm −1 , were used in a flow injection system comprising a dedicated fibre ...
