Midodrine as a Countermeasure for Post-Spaceflight Orthostatic Hypotension [PDF]
One possible mechanism for post-spaceflight orthostatic hypotension, which affects approximately 30% of astronauts after short duration shuttle missions, is inadequate norepinephrine release during upright posture.

Recurrent Laughter-induced Syncope [PDF]
Syncope is a common presenting complaint in Neurology clinics or Emergency departments, but its causes are sometimes difficult to diagnose. Apart from vasovagal attacks, other benign, neurally mediated syncopes include “situational” syncopes, which occur

Abstract Background Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a chronic form of orthostatic intolerance that primarily affects female patients. There are scarce data evaluating the long‐term outcomes in POTS. Objectives This study sought to evaluate the long‐term impacts of POTS over multiple decades in adult patients.

Use of oral midodrine for weaning off norepinephrine in patients with septic shock
Background Early administration of norepinephrine in septic shock patients is linked to better survival rates. However, vasopressor dependence often occurs during the recovery phase, delaying ICU discharge. Objectives A comparative study was conducted on

Usefulness of bioelectrical impedance analysis for monitoring patients with refractory ascites [PDF]
Background: bioelectrical impedance analysis is a technique for the determination of the hydropic component. The hydropic component, determined by blood volume, could be a reflection of the hemodynamic situation.

Women in space: A review of known physiological adaptations and health perspectives
Abstract Exposure to the spaceflight environment causes adaptations in most human physiological systems, many of which are thought to affect women differently from men. Since only 11.5% of astronauts worldwide have been female, these issues are largely understudied.

Reflex syncope: Diagnosis and treatment
For the diagnosis of reflex syncope, diligent history-building with the patient and a witness is required. In the Emergency Department (ED), the assessment of syncope is a challenge which may be addressed by an ED Observation Unit or by a referral to a ...

Reversal of hepatorenal syndrome type 1 with terlipressin plus albumin vs. placebo plus albumin in a pooled analysis of the OT-0401 and REVERSE randomised clinical studies [PDF]
Background The goal of hepatorenal syndrome type 1 (HRS-1) treatment is to improve renal function. Terlipressin, a synthetic vasopressin analogue, is a systemic vasoconstrictor used for the treatment of HRS-1, where it is available.

EAGC and HAFE‐guided cardioneuroablation achieve equivalent 24‐month syncope‐free survival and similar quality of life improvements. HAFE‐guided ablation significantly reduces procedure time and radiation exposure while maintaining comparable safety, supporting its procedural efficiency for vasovagal syncope.
