Migratory Flows of Women for Reproductive Work: The Globalization of Assistance

open access: yesRevista Estudos Feministas, 2007
Based on an experience as a member of the group that worked with the theme of migration of women at the Internationale Frauen Universität (IFU) in 2000, this article presents a discussion about the migratory flows of women who work as domestic servants.

Understanding the immunopathogenic bases and the clinical approach of the periodic syndrome associated with the tumor necrosis receptor, TRAPS

open access: yesIatreia, 2018
Tumor necrosis factor receptor periodic syndrome (TRAPS) is characterized by episodes of fever of more than 10 days of duration, migratory myalgias, pseudocellulitis, abdominal pain and bipalpebral edema.

Measurement of the threshold sensitivity of honeybees to weak, extremely low-frequency magnetic fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Experiments reported previously demonstrate that free-flying honeybees are able to detect static intensity fluctuations as weak as 26 nT against the background, earth-strength magnetic field.

An Improved Migratory Birds Optimization Algorithm for Closed- Loop Supply Chain Network Planning in a Fuzzy Environment

open access: yesPLOS ONE
Recycling of used products can provide substantial economic and environmental benefits for supply chain players. However, many factors associated with the design of closed-loop supply chain networks are uncertain in their nature, including demand, opening cost of facilities, capacity of opened facilities, transportation cost, and procurement cost ...

Consequences of Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule Deficiency on Cell Migration in the Rostral Migratory Stream of the Mouse

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2000
In vertebrates, interneurons of the olfactory bulb (OB) are generated postnatally and throughout life at the subventricular zone of the forebrain. The neuronal precursors migrate tangentially through the forebrain using a well defined pathway, the ...

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Diaspora-led development through the corporate social responsibility initiatives of talented migrants

open access: yesGIGAPP Estudios Working Papers, 2012
In this paper we explore the idea that talented migrants can assist in the development andgrowth of their economies of origin through brain-circulation dynamics, linking the developedworld where they live and developing homelands they (or their ancestors

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

CD98hc as a marker of radiotherapy-resistant cancer stem cells in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesArchives of Medical Science, 2020
Introduction The prognosis of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is generally good in cases of high radiation sensitivity but poor in cases exhibiting radiation resistance; this resistance has been attributed to the presence of cancer stem ...

Control of neuronal migration through rostral migratory stream in mice

open access: yesAnatomy & Cell Biology, 2010
During the nervous system development, immature neuroblasts have a strong potential to migrate toward their destination. In the adult brain, new neurons are continuously generated in the neurogenic niche located near the ventricle, and the newly ...
