Stars made in outflows may populate the stellar halo of the Milky Way [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2020
ABSTRACT We study stellar-halo formation using six Milky-Way-mass galaxies in FIRE-2 cosmological zoom simulations. We find that $5{-}40{{\ \rm per\ cent}}$ of the outer (50–300 kpc) stellar halo in each system consists of in-situ stars that were born in outflows from the main galaxy.

Breakthrough Solution for Antimicrobial Resistance Detection: Surface‐Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy‐based on Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView., 2023
This review discusses the use of Surface‐Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) for detecting antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Various SERS studies used with AI techniques, including machine learning and deep learning, are analyzed for their advantages and limitations.

Formation ofin situstellar haloes in Milky Way-mass galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2015
We study the formation of stellar haloes in three Milky Way-mass galaxies using cosmological smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations, focusing on the subset of halo stars that form in situ, as opposed to those accreted from satellites. In situ stars in our simulations dominate the stellar halo out to 20 kpc and account for 30-40 per cent of its ...

The Nature of the Milky Way’s Stellar Halo Revealed by the Three Integrals of Motion [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2021
Abstract We developed a new selection method of halo stars in the phase-space distribution defined by the three integrals of motion in an axisymmetric Galactic potential (E, L z , I 3), where I 3 is the third integral of motion.

Detection of Multiple Phase Space Overdensities of GSE Stars by Orbit Integration

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
In N -body simulations, nearly radial mergers can form shell-like overdensities in the sky position and phase space ( r − v _r ) due to the combination of dynamical friction and tidal stripping.

The Outer Halo of the Milky Way as Probed by RR Lyr Variables from the Palomar Transient Facility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
RR Lyr stars are ideal massless tracers that can be used to study the total mass and dark matter content of the outer halo of the Milky Way. This is because they are easy to find in the light curve databases of large stellar surveys and their distances ...
