MIRUReader: MIRU-VNTR typing directly from long sequencing reads [PDF]
Abstract Summary Mycobacterial interspersed repetitive unit-variable number tandem repeat (MIRU-VNTR) typing is widely used to genotype Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex in epidemiological studies for tracking tuberculosis transmission.

Bacteremia tuberculosis among HIV‐negative children in China
ABSTRACT Importance Bacteremia tuberculosis (TB) is a severe form of extrapulmonary TB. Studies assessing bacteremia TB in children are limited, especially for HIV‐negative children. Objective To explore the detailed clinical features of the bacteremia TB in children under 18 years of age.

Our previous study described a novel virulence mechanism of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae that inhibits the host UPR to facilitate bacterial adherence and infection. The bacterial factors and mechanisms underlying this UPR modulation are unknown. Here we find that Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae membrane protein Mhp271 directly interacts with the host GRP78 (a ...

Abstract Tapirs seem particularly susceptible to mycobacterial infections, especially to tuberculosis caused by M. tuberculosis or M. bovis. In this case series, we report an infection with the non‐tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) species M. avium ssp. hominissuis (MAH) in a group of four (2.2) captive lowland tapirs (Tapirus terrestris).

MIRU-VNTR typing of drug-resistant tuberculosis isolates in Greece [PDF]
The increasing immigration rate in Greece from countries with a high prevalence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) may have an impact οn the number of MDR-TB cases in Greece. The aim of this study was to genotypically characterize the MTB isolates from patients with pulmonary drug-resistant tuberculosis ...

Epidemiological tracing of bovine tuberculosis in Switzerland, multilocus variable number of tandem repeat analysis of Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium caprae. [PDF]
BACKGROUND:After 15 years of absence, in 2013 bovine tuberculosis (bTB), caused by Mycobacterium (M.) bovis and M. caprae, reemerged in the Swiss dairy cattle population.

Abstract The occurrence of mycobacterial infections in different hosts and their implication as obligate or opportunistic pathogens remain mainly unclear. In addition to the well‐known pathogenic members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis – complex (MTBC), over 180 non‐tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) species have been described.

The emergence of drug-resistant strains of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) has challenged tuberculosis control programs. So far, few studies using the 24-locus mycobacterial interspersed repetitive unit variable number tandem repeats (MIRU-VNTR ...

A case of early neonate bovine tuberculosis in Ethiopia
This report illustrates that calves may be infected with bovine tuberculosis at early age under natural conditions and progression can be rapid. Thus, testing of calves needs to be considered in any control program to reduce the risk of transmission.
