The ultrastructure of mitochondria

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B. Biological Sciences, 1969
Abstract The study, in thin sections, of the specific morphology of mitochondria in different plant and animal cells has confirmed the view that, in spite of a wide polymorphism in gross structure, the organelle is nevertheless built according to the same fundamental pattern, which was first described by Palade (1953) and by Sjöstrand

Mitochondria to the rescue

Nature Medicine, 2012
A new study using a mouse model of lung diseases is the first demonstration in vivo that bone marrow–derived stromal cells can repair tissue injury through the transfer of mitochondria (pages 759-765). This suggests that rescue of injured cells through mitochondrial transfer may be an important process in many diseases.
