A Mitochondrial Health Index Sensitive to Mood and Caregiving Stress. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND:Chronic life stress, such as the stress of caregiving, can promote pathophysiology, but the underlying cellular mechanisms are not well understood.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the green-lipped mussel, Perna canaliculus (Mollusca: Mytiloidea), from long nanopore sequencing reads

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2018
We describe here the first complete genome assembly of the New Zealand green-lipped mussel, Perna canaliculus, mitochondrion. The assembly was performed de novo from a mix of long nanopore sequencing reads and short sequencing reads. The genome is 16,005

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Siberian musk deer Moschus moschiferus (Artiodactyla: Moschidae) and phylogenetic relationship with other moschus species

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2017
The Siberian musk deer, Moschus moschiferus, is an Endangered species in South Korea due to its decreasing population size caused by illegal hunting and habitat destruction. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of M.

Biomineral Precursor Formation Is Initiated by Transporting Calcium and Phosphorus Clusters from the Endoplasmic Reticulum to Mitochondria

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2020
Mineral granules in the mitochondria of bone‐forming cells are thought to be the origin of biomineral precursors, which are transported to extracellular matrices to initiate cell‐mediated biomineralization.

Expression of the Mitochondrial Genome in HeLa Cells. XV. Effect of Inhibition of Mitochondrial Protein Synthesis on Mitochondrial Formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
The effect of selective inhibition of mitochondrial protein synthesis by chloramphenicol at 40 or 200 µg/ml on the formation of mitochondria in HeLa cells was investigated.

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.
