Mixed Modes of Innovation [PDF]
This study uses exploratory data analysis techniques to develop typologies of innovation modes or strategies for groups of firms. Analysing micro-level survey data from 18 countries we identify five innovation modes. The coherence and relevance of the innovation modes is tested by using them as explanatory factors in equations explaining economic ...

Change-over mixed-mode buildings prevent the concurrent use of air-conditioners and operable windows, thus are energy-efficient. Based on automation levels for mixed-mode control, change-over mixed-mode buildings can be classified into three types ...

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Weak anion-exchange hypercrosslinked sorbent in on-line solid-phase extraction-liquid chromatography coupling to achieve automated determination with an effective clean-up [PDF]
A mixed-mode polymeric sorbent was on-line coupled to liquid chromatography (LC) for the first time and applied it to the selective solid-phase extract a group of pharmaceuticals in complex environmental water samples. The mixed-mode polymeric sorbent is

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Long Tailed Maps as a Representation of Mixed Mode Oscillatory Systems
Mixed mode oscillatory (MMO) systems are known to exhibit some generic features such as the reversal of period doubling sequences and crossover to period adding sequences as bifurcation parameters are varied.

Mixed signal approach for rapid prototyping of a compact smart pebble for sediment transport monitoring in river beds [PDF]
Low-cost accelerometers and gyro ICs were used to develop a smart sediment particle to study the sediment transport in rivers. With strap-down MEMS, battery, a processing subsystem and memory, this self contained unit captures semiprocessed data for ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
