First Record of \u3ci\u3eAphis Helianthi\u3c/i\u3e (Homoptera: Aphididae) as a Pest of Celery [PDF]
In 1989, the aphid Aphis helianthi severely damaged five of 10 scouted celery fields in west central Michigan. In 1990 and in 1991, A. helianthi again was a problem. reaching pestiferous levels in three of 10 and two of 10 scouted fields.

Biocatalyst Screening with a Twist: Application of Oxygen Sensors Integrated in Microchannels for Screening Whole Cell Biocatalyst Variants [PDF]
Selective oxidative functionalization of molecules is a highly relevant and often demanding reaction in organic chemistry. The use of biocatalysts allows the stereo- and regioselective introduction of oxygen molecules in organic compounds at milder ...

The derivation of the formyl-group oxygen of chlorophyll b in higher plants from molecular oxygen. [PDF]
The mechanism of formation of the formyl group of chlorophyll b has long been obscure but, in this paper, the origin of the 7-formyl-group oxygen of chlorophyll b in higher plants was determined by greening etiolated maize leaves, excised from dark-grown

Structure and function of the bacterial heterodimeric ABC transporter CydDC: stimulation of ATPase activity by thiol and heme compounds. [PDF]
In Escherichia coli, the biogenesis of both cytochrome bd-type quinol oxidases and periplasmic cytochromes requires the ATP-binding cassette-type cysteine/GSH transporter, CydDC.

Characterization of novel PAH dioxygenases from the bacterial metagenomic DNA of a contaminated soil. [PDF]
International audienceRing hydroxylating dioxygenases (RHDs) play a crucial role in the biodegradation of a range of aromatic hydrocarbons found on polluted sites, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

Reaction of O2 with a di-iron protein generates a mixed valent Fe2+/Fe3+ center and peroxide [PDF]
The gene encoding the cyanobacterial ferritin SynFtn is up-regulated in response to copper stress. Here, we show that, while SynFtn does not interact directly with copper, it is highly unusual in several ways.

Aryl Hydrocarbon (Benzo[A]Pyrene) Hydroxylase: A Mixed-Function Oxygenase in Mouse Skin
Mouse skin contains aryl hydrocarbon (benzo[a]pyrene) hydroxylase activity which is inducible by aromatic polycyclic hydrocarbons and benzoflavones. The duration and magnitude of induction, but not the initial kinetics, are dependent on the inducer dose.

Substrate Range and Genetic Analysis of Acinetobacter Vanillate Demethylase [PDF]
An Acinetobacter sp. genetic screen was used to probe structure-function relationships in vanillate demethylase, a two-component monooxygenase. Mutants with null, leaky, and heat-sensitive phenotypes were isolated.

A Flavin-dependent Monooxygenase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis Involved in Cholesterol Catabolism [PDF]
Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and Rhodococcus jostii RHA1 have similar cholesterol catabolic pathways. This pathway contributes to the pathogenicity of Mtb.
