Effect of Liquid-Solid Lubricant on Mixed Lubrication in Line Contact

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011
This paper presents the performance characteristics of two surfaces in line contact under isothermal mixed lubrication with non-Newtonian liquid–solid lubricant base on Power law viscosity model. The time dependent Reynolds equation, elastic equation and viscosity equation were formulated for compressible fluid.

A numerical method for the calculation of lubricant pressures in bearings with mixed lubrication

Tribology International, 1982
Abstract A model for mixed lubrication, assuming that the total normal load applied to the plane of the lubricated surfaces is carried partly by the hydrodynamic action of the lubrication film and partly by asperity contacts and that the total friction force between the lubricated surfaces is partly due to viscous friction and partly to asperity ...

Mixed Mechanism of Lubrication by Lipid Bilayer Stacks

Langmuir, 2015
Although the key role of lipid bilayer stacks in biological lubrication is generally accepted, the mechanisms underlying their extreme efficiency remain elusive. In this article, we report molecular dynamics simulations of lipid bilayer stacks undergoing load and shear.

On the modelling of mixed lubrication of conformal contacts

Tribology International, 2018
Abstract When it comes to the numerical evaluation of tribological contacts operated in the boundary and mixed lubrication regime, the estimation of the asperity contact based on statistical methods is widespread. We have studied the effects and expressiveness of major aspects of statistical contact modelling including the choice of contact model ...

Mixed lubrication regime

2016
La lubrification mixte intervient dans un contact travaillant en présence d’un lubrifiant liquide, mais dans les conditions particulières de fonctionnement qui conduisent à l’absence d’une séparation complète des 2 pièces en regard, par le film lubrifiant.

Mixed lubrication—Experiment and theory

2002
In recent years progress in understanding mixed lubrication has been quite rapid. On the experimental side it is now possible to map lubricant film thickness in low lambda ratio, thin film contacts, while computer models of mixed lubrication with load sharing between fluid film and asperity contact have recently been developed.

Mixed-mode fracture of a lubricated interface

Acta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1992
Abstract The fracture of an interface containing a liquid was investigated under nominally mixed-mode conditions. The experiments were designed to be a study of a model interface for which frictional effects are minimised. Alternatively, the system could be considered to provide an analogy for an interface along which there is little resistance to ...

Behaviour of lubricants in the mixed elastohydrodynamic regime

1995
A range of lubricant base fluids have been chosen and their film-forming properties measured in the mixed elastohydrodynamic regime in pure rolling conditions. The Dowson-Hamrock elastohydrodynamic film thickness equation was found to remain valid over a large film thickness range for the tested base fluids.
