Mixed Reality for Cultural Heritage

2019 IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality and 3D User Interfaces (VR), 2019
In this paper we present two different approaches with Mixed (Virtual and Augmented) Reality to give pupils an understanding of ancient Greek culture and history in a motivating way. We identify the possibilities of AR in a museum for ancient statues to represent virtual information and to guide the visitor.

Visualization in mixed reality environments

2011 IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality - Arts, Media, and Humanities, 2011
Mixed and Augmented Reality displays extend the user's perception with computer generated information. This information is typically registered in three-dimensional space, and related to objects and places in the physical world. While individual annotation of objects has historically been a topic of MR research, visualization incorporating multiple ...

On the Role of Presence in Mixed Reality

Presence: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments, 2009
Previous paradigms for presence research were primarily established in the context of virtual reality (VR). The objective of this paper is to introduce a new agenda for research on presence suitable for the domain of mixed reality (MR). While established assumptions and methods of presence research from VR are applicable to MR experiences, we argue ...

Mixed Realities

2012
Teaching with technological support brings its own set of problems, some of them technical and others social in nature. Familiarity with specific technology can enhance the teacher’s, the practicing professional’s and the student’s experience, otherwise each will face a potentially steep learning curve before being able to achieve the best outcomes. We

Reciprocal shading for mixed reality

2013
Reciprocal shading for mixed reality aims to integrate virtual objects into real environments in a way that they are in the ideal case indistinguishable from real objects. It is therefore an attractive technology for architectural visualizations, product visualizations and for cultural heritage sites, where virtual objects should be seamlessly merged ...
