‘Candidatus Phytoplasma solani’: From infection to all‐round characterisation of distinct tuf‐type strains with different virulence in tomato plants

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 188, Issue 2, Page 480-494, March 2026.
‘Candidatus Phytoplasma (Ca. P.) solani’ is associated with bois noir (BN) of grapevine and stolbur of solanaceous plants and is primarily transmitted by Hyalesthes obsoletus Signoret. Four tuf‐a and five tuf‐b1 ‘Ca. P. solani’ strains were transmitted to tomato plants (cv. Micro‐Tom) by using bait‐plants and by capturing H.

Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) ofEscherichia coliO78 strains [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2003
Strains of Escherichia coli serotype O78 are associated with many diseases, including invasive infections, in humans and farm animals. The clonal relationship between strains from different hosts is therefore important for assessing the risk of zoonotic infections. Here we propose a multilocus sequence typing scheme for E.

Unwelcome neighbours: Tracking the transmission of Streptococcus equi in the United Kingdom horse population

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 58, Issue 2, Page 533-548, March 2026.
Abstract Background Strangles (Streptococcus equi infection) remains endemic in the UK, with ~300 laboratory diagnoses annually. Sub‐clinically infected long‐term carriers are considered a key driver of endemicity. Analysing genomes of circulating strains could provide valuable transmission insights of this pathogen.

Whole Genome Sequencing for Tracing Geographical Origin of Imported Cases of Human Brucellosis in Sweden

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2019
Human infections with Brucella melitensis are occasionally reported in Sweden, despite the fact that the national flocks of sheep and goats are officially free from brucellosis. The aim of our study was to analyze 103 isolates of B.

Lack of continuity between Cronobacter biotypes and species as determined using multilocus sequence typing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The accuracy of the Cronobacter biotyping scheme was compared with the 7-loci multilocus sequence typing scheme. Biotyping did not reliably assign species level identification, as only half (17/31) of the biotype variants were unique to any of the seven ...

MLST genotypes of Campylobacter jejuni isolated from broiler products, dairy cattle and human campylobacteriosis cases in Lithuania

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2017
BackgroundCampylobacter (C.) jejuni is the leading cause of human campylobacteriosis worldwide. We performed a molecular epidemiological study to investigate the genetic relationship among C.

Antimicrobial Resistance in Salmonella Across Aquaculture, Seafood and Related Aquatic Environments: A Scoping Review With Exploratory Textual Analysis

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 2, March 2026.
This scoping review with textual analysis maps antimicrobial resistance in Salmonella across aquaculture, seafood, and related aquatic environments. Across 93 studies, recurrent MDR patterns suggest sentinel serotypes (S. Typhimurium, S. Newport) and a minimal antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) panel to guide matrix‐stratified One Health ...

Characterizing Scales of Genetic Recombination and Antibiotic Resistance in Pathogenic Bacteria Using Topological Data Analysis

open access: yes, 2014
Pathogenic bacteria present a large disease burden on human health. Control of these pathogens is hampered by rampant lateral gene transfer, whereby pathogenic strains may acquire genes conferring resistance to common antibiotics. Here we introduce tools

Escherichia coli of sequence type 3835 carrying blaNDM-1, blaCTX-M-15, blaCMY-42 and blaSHV-12 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM) represents a serious challenge for treatment and public health. A carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli clinical strain WCHEC13-8 was subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility tests, whole genome sequencing and ...

Coevolution and Functional Effects of Endosymbiotic Rickettsia in Leptocybe invasa Fisher & LaSalle (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) Across China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Two distinct lineages of L. invasa and the dominant endosymbiont, Rickettsia, was identified, followed by an analysis of its infection density across various developmental stages and tissues of L. invasa. Furthermore, two distinct strains of the Rickettsia endosymbiont were detected, and the phylogenetic relationships between these strains and their L.
