Speech Recognition Deficits in Presbyacusis: Links to Cortical Structural and Functional Alterations

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize speech recognition in presbyacusis and its associated neurophysiological and cortical structural features, and to explore structure‐function‐behavior relationships within the presbyacusis phenotype. Methods Thirty elderly patients with presbyacusis(HI) and thirty‐three healthy young controls(NH) completed a behavioral

Hearing and Cognitive Function in Aged Adults: A Machine Learning and Mediation Analysis of NHANES

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Cognitive impairment is a major public health challenge. Early identification is crucial, especially in the often‐overlooked 60–69 age group. This study developed an efficient risk identification tool. Methods Using data from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), three machine learning algorithms screened ...

Enhancing generalized spectral clustering with embedding Laplacian graph regularization

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract An enhanced generalised spectral clustering framework that addresses the limitations of existing methods by incorporating the Laplacian graph and group effect into a regularisation term is presented. By doing so, the framework significantly enhances discrimination power and proves highly effective in handling noisy data.

Associations of cannabis use, tobacco use and co‐use with brain volume: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesAddiction, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and aims Cannabis is the most widely used illicit drug worldwide and is often co‐used with tobacco, the leading cause of preventable death. Although cannabis and tobacco have distinct neurobiological actions, their associations with brain volumes are unclear.

Transceiver design for non-regenerative MIMO relay systems with decision feedback detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper we consider the design of zero forcing (ZF) and minimum mean square error (MMSE) transceivers for non-regenerative multiple input multiple output (MIMO) relay networks.

The Effect of an Individualized Oral Health Intervention on Oral Health‐Related Behaviours Among Family Caregivers and Care Recipients

open access: yesGerodontology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The oral health of institutionalized individuals has been widely studied; however, research on the oral health of older family caregivers and their care recipients is scarce. We aimed to assess the impact of an individually tailored preventive oral health intervention on the oral health‐related behaviour of family caregivers and ...

Periodontitis and Chronic Conditions in Older Adults: A Scoping Review and Evidence Map of Systematic Reviews

open access: yesGerodontology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Periodontitis is a prevalent chronic inflammatory condition that frequently co‐occurs with systemic chronic diseases. Although older adults experience a high burden of both periodontitis and chronic conditions, the extent to which age‐specific evidence has been synthesised remains unclear.

Rethinking Dental Hygiene Practice: Home‐Based Oral Health Care for Older Adults With Complex Care Needs

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dental Hygiene, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background As populations age, increasing numbers of older adults live with multimorbidity, frailty and functional decline, making it difficult or impossible for many older adults to access traditional dental clinics. Despite this growing need, oral health care in home‐care settings remains underdeveloped, with limited guidelines, resources ...

Frailty and Five‐Year Mortality After TAVR in Patients Aged 75 Years and Older

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, EarlyView.
In patients aged 75 years and older undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement, frailty assessed by the Clinical Frailty Scale was the most robust geriatric factor independently associated with five‐year mortality. This study highlights the specific prognostic value of frailty beyond short‐term outcomes.
