Vascular endothelial growth factor restores delayed tumor progression in tumors depleted of macrophages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Genetic depletion of macrophages in Polyoma Middle T oncoprotein (PyMT)‐induced mammary tumors in mice delayed the angiogenic switch and the progression to malignancy.

Late developing mammary tumors and hyperplasia induced by a low-oncogenic variant of mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) express genes identical to those induced by canonical MMTV

open access: yesMolecular Cancer, 2013
The canonical milk-transmitted mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) of C3H mice (C3H-MMTV) rapidly induces tumors in 90% of infected animals by 8 months of age.

Engineering Complexity: Advances in 3D Breast Cancer Models for Precision Oncology

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 1, 9 January 2026.
In vitro breast cancer models that closely mimic the complex biological and cellular interactions within the tumor microenvironment hold strong promise for enhancing our understanding of tumor progression, immune system behavior, and resistance to therapies, which are essential for developing personalized cancer treatments. Abstract Engineered in vitro

Cooperativity of Glucocorticoid Response Elements Located Far Upstream of the Tyrosine Aminotransferase Gene [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Two glucocorticoid response elements (GREs) located 2.5 kb upstream of the transcription initiation site of the tyrosine aminotransferase gene were identified by gene transfer experiments and shown to bind to purified glucocorticoid receptor.

MMTV-Espl1 Transgenic Mice Develop Aneuploid, Estrogen Receptor Alpha (ERα)-Positive Mammary Adenocarcinomas

open access: yesOncogene, 2013
Separase, a protease encoded by the ESPL1 gene, cleaves the chromosomal cohesin during mitosis. Separase protein and transcripts are overexpressed in a wide range of human cancers.

Peptide Amphiphiles Hitchhike on Endogenous Biomolecules for Enhanced Cancer Imaging and Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 3, 13 January 2026.
Weakly assembled peptide amphiphile nanostructures disassemble in circulation and reassemble with blood biomolecules, mainly lipoproteins. Binding to blood biomolecules prolongs blood circulation and improves accumulation in solid tumors. In the tumor microenvironment, peptide amphiphiles assemble with cholesterol‐rich domains of cell membranes ...

Transgenic mice with mammary gland targeted expression of human cortactin do not develop (pre-malignant) breast tumors: studies in MMTV-cortactin and MMTV-cortactin/-cyclin D1 bitransgenic mice

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2006
Background In human breast cancers, amplification of chromosome 11q13 correlates with lymph node metastasis and increased mortality. To date, two genes located within this amplicon, CCND1 and EMS1, were considered to act as oncogenes, because ...

HERV‐K TM Subunit Elicits CD8+ T Cell Anergy and Tumor Immune Evasion via Targeting CD3 Coreceptor ε in AML and PDAC

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 1, 5 January 2026.
Novel viral immune checkpoint K‐TM subunit is aberrantly expressed in CD8+ T cells and enriched in sera of cancer patients, inducing CD8+ T cell anergy and eliciting potent tumor immune escape in mouse model. Mechanistically, K‐TM directly targets and induces the phosphorylation of CD3ε receptor.
