Photonic-to-plasmonic mode converter
Optics Letters, 2014A novel photonic-to-plasmonic mode converter for efficiently converting a silicon strip waveguide mode to a gap surface plasmon polariton (SPP) of a metallic slot structure is proposed. A conversion efficiency of more than 85% is found for metallic slots with a slot size of 30-50 nm.

Current Mode Pipelined a/d Converter
2005 12th IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems, 2005This paper presents a high speed and a high resolution pipelined a/d converter relying on a current mode technique. The a/d converter structure is composed of current mode building blocks. All building blocks have been designed in CMOS AMS 0.8 mum technology, then simulated and measured to verify proposed concept.

Current mode ternary D/A converter
Proceedings Eleventh International Conference on VLSI Design, 2002In this paper current mirror sources have been employed to design a ternary D/A converter. A much better performance and area saving over the 3R-4R resistive network has been achieved.

Current-mode A/D fuzzy converter
IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, 2002This paper presents a general architecture for an analog-to-digital (A/D) fuzzy converter which performs the A/D conversion and the fuzzification operation on the same functional block, through a programmable membership function. The solution uses as main blocks an A/D converter, a comparator, and some logic inverters and switches.

Mode-converted diffuse ultrasonic backscatter
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2013Diffuse ultrasonic backscatter describes the scattering of elastic waves from interfaces within heterogeneous materials. Previously, theoretical models have been developed for the diffuse backscatter of longitudinal-to-longitudinal (L-L) wave scattering within polycrystalline materials.

Efficient pure-mode elastic mode-converting diode
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2021Abstract A pure-mode performance is critical for elastic diodes, but difficult to achieve because of the rich polarization characteristics of elastic waves. In this work, we propose a type of elastic mode-converting diode for an efficient and pure-mode asymmetric transmission.

Mode-order converter in a multimode waveguide
Optics Letters, 2003A novel device that converts the order of modes in an integrated-optic multimode waveguide was proposed and fabricated. The device consists of two mode splitters and tapered waveguides. Its operation at a wavelength of 1.55 microm was confirmed by observation of the output mode profiles. The cross talk measured by an indirect method was >10.2 dB.

Design of mode converter by investigating the Floquet modes
2012 IEEE International Conference on Complex Systems (ICCS), 2012We propose here the study of periodic structures in circular waveguide. The corrugated circular waveguide provides better performance in terms of bandwidth, as part of circular horn antenna excitation. The determination of the modal fields in the periodic corrugated waveguide is based on the coupled-integral-equation technique.

Integrated mode converter for mode division multiplexing
SPIE Proceedings, 2016The ever growing demands of bandwidth in optical communication systems are making traditional Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) based systems to reach its limit. In order to cope with future bandwidth demand is necessary to use new levels of orthogonality, such as the waveguide mode or the polarization state.

Mode converters and couplers for few-mode transmission
2012 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meeting Series, 2012Space-division multiplexing based on few-mode fiber has been studied as a promising technique to increase capacity. In this paper we review the recent progress on the enabling mode selective components including mode converters and couplers.
