Silicon-on-insulator irregular waveguide mode converters
Optics Letters, 2006Irregular waveguide elements in a silicon-on-insulator platform that allow new device concepts are introduced. Specific designs are achieved using a multiresolution optimization strategy where the waveguide width is varied in stepwise increments. Simulation results are given for high-efficiency waveguide mode converters, power splitters, and waveguide ...

Wavelength-independent all-fiber mode converters
Optics Letters, 2007We have used two different photonic crystal fiber (PCF) techniques to make all-fiber mode converters. An LP(01) to LP(11) mode converter was made by the ferrule technique on a drawing tower, and an LP(01) to LP(02) mode converter was made by controlled hole inflation of an existing PCF on a tapering rig.

An analysis method for the simulation of switched-mode converters
MELECON '98. 9th Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference. Proceedings (Cat. No.98CH36056), 2002An efficient method for the simulation of switched-mode converters is presented in this paper. The concept of the method is to model each semiconductor device by a nonideal equivalent circuit and to use a systematic method in obtaining the circuit equations that describe the dynamic of power electronic circuit.

A Dual-Mode Controller for the Boost PFC Converter
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2011A dual-mode control scheme is proposed in this letter to control a boost power factor correction (PFC) converter. The scheme combines both continuous and critical conduction modes and has the merits of simple control, high efficiency in a light-load condition, and being fit for personal computer (PC) power applications.

Synthesis of switched-mode converters
1983 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 1983An analytical synthesis method is described which is capable of generating the complete set of switching converters which possess given attributes. This leads to a number of useful new converter topologies, as well as to a more fundamental understanding of switched-mode conversion. Two examples are considered.

An improved cosine-mode controller for SCR converters
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 1995An improved cosine-mode controller for silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) power converters is presented. The proposed scheme linearizes the input/output transfer function of SCR power converters. The replacement of monostables by AND gates in the controller eliminates false turn-ons due to bouncing inside analog comparators.
