Design of a Novel Type Micro-Stirrer Excited by Longitudinal Elastic Wave for Thrombus Dissolution

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanical Science and Engineering, 2011
This paper presents the method to design a novel micro stirrer for high effective dissolution of cerebral thrombus or blood clot. The micro stirrer is a beam with supported one side and the other side is attached to an asymmetrical stirrer.

Use of mode shape ratios for pier scour monitoring in two-span integral bridges under changing environmental conditions

open access: yesCanadian journal of civil engineering (Print), 2020
In this paper, a novel pier scour indicator is introduced, which uses the ratio between mode shape amplitudes identified at two points on an integral bridge structure to monitor the progression of scour erosion. The mode shape ratio (MSR) is investigated

Damage identification in a concrete beam using curvature difference ratio [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Previous studies utilising changes in mode shape or curvature to locate damage rely on the fact that the greatest change occurs around the defect. However, in concrete beams this fact is undermined due to the nature of the defect as distributed multi ...

Unstable spiral modes in disk-shaped galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1976
The mechanisms for the maintenance and the excitation of trailing spiral modes of density waves in diskshaped galaxies, as proposed by Lin in 1969 and by Mark recently, are substantiated by an analysis of the gas-dynamical model of the galaxy. The self-excitation of the unstable mode in caused by waves propagating outwards from the corotation circle ...

T-shaped mode coupler for two-mode mode division multiplexing

open access: yesIEICE Electronics Express, 2011
We propose a novel type of mode coupler consisting of two identical rectangular few-mode waveguides with different orientations. Numerical simulation indicates that mode extinction ratio exceeding 20dB can be achieved by well-aligned waveguides.

Shaping Effects on Non-Ideal Ballooning Mode [PDF]

open access: yesPlasma and Fusion Research, 2018
The dependence of shaping effects on the growth rate of collisionless and resistive ballooning mode (CBM/RBM) is numerically investigated. That of the drift ballooning modes (DCBM/DRBM) is also investigated by taking kinetic effects into account. Resistivity scans of linear growth rates of CBM/RBM and DCBM/DRBM in a circular geometry show that both ...

An Advanced Edge-Detection Method for Noncontact Structural Displacement Monitoring

open access: yesSensors, 2020
A non-contact vision sensor system for monitoring structural displacements with advanced Zernike subpixel edge detection technique is suggested in this paper. Edge detection can detect features of objects effectively without using templates.

Experimental Study on the Natural Dynamic Characteristics of Steel-Framed Modular Structures

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
Corner-supported modular structures are made of repetitive prefurnished, prefinished modular units, which are fabricated in a factory and transported to the site of a building to form a permanent building block.

Mode Shape-Based Damage Localization in Steel Plates Using a Detection Index Based on 2D Wavelet Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Rehabilitation in Civil Engineering, 2023
Structures are subjected to a variety of environmental and loading conditions over time, and minor damage to structural elements may occur. By timely identifying damage and repairing damaged locations, it is possible to prevent the spread and development

Universal shape law of stochastic supercritical bifurcations: Theory and experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A universal law for the supercritical bifurcation shape of transverse one-dimensional (1D) systems in presence of additive noise is given. The stochastic Langevin equation of such systems is solved by using a Fokker-Planck equation leading to the ...
