Fast and Robust Rank Aggregation against Model Misspecification

open access: yes, 2019
In rank aggregation, preferences from different users are summarized into a total order under the homogeneous data assumption. Thus, model misspecification arises and rank aggregation methods take some noise models into account. However, they all rely on

The impact of physical activity on psychological distress in young people: An analysis of longitudinal data from the Millennium Cohort Study using causal machine learning

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Using causal machine learning, we estimated the causal effect of meeting government guidelines on physical activity on psychological distress in young people. Whilst observing no overall impact, we did identify some groups who benefit relatively more from meeting the physical activity guidelines, including males.

Detecting model misspecification in cosmology with scale-dependent normalizing flows

open access: yesMachine Learning: Science and Technology
Current and upcoming cosmological surveys will produce unprecedented amounts of high-dimensional data, which require complex high-fidelity forward simulations to accurately model both physical processes and systematic effects which describe the data ...

Monetary policy in a small open economy with a preference for robustness [PDF]

open access: yes
We use robust control techniques to study the effects of model uncertainty on monetary policy in an estimated, semi-structural, small-open-economy model of the U.K.

Corticosterone and Mitochondrial Efficiency Are Associated With Changes in DNA Oxidative Damage During an Acute Stress Response in Leach's Storm‐Petrels (Hydrobates leucorhous)

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ability of organisms to effectively respond to challenges is critical for survival. We investigated how an acute stressor affected corticosterone, mitochondrial function, and DNA oxidative damage in a wild population of Leach's storm‐petrels (Hydrobates leucorhous).

The effect of compliance assistance on pollution discharges and violations of environmental regulations

open access: yesJournal of Policy Analysis and Management, EarlyView.
Abstract Researchers and policymakers assert competing behavioral models of polluters. One model portrays polluters as best approximated by the perfectly informed, rational actor from economics textbooks. Another model portrays polluters, particularly small and medium facilities, as imperfectly informed, cognitively bounded, pro‐social actors.

Agent‐based versus correlative models of species distributions: Evaluation of predictive performance with real and simulated data

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution
Species distribution models (SDMs) have been widely used in ecology to understand how species relate to environmental variation. Most SDMs are correlative, and they lack explicit reference to the underlying processes, and therefore, the reliability of ...
