Sparse Decomposition and Modeling of Anatomical Shape Variation [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, 2007
Recent advances in statistics have spawned powerful methods for regression and data decomposition that promote sparsity, a property that facilitates interpretation of the results. Sparse models use a small subset of the available variables and may perform as well or better than their full counterparts if constructed carefully.

Clinical significance of stratifying prostate cancer patients through specific circulating genes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We tested a specific panel of genes representative of luminal, neuroendocrine and stem‐like cells in the blood of prostate cancer patients, showing predictive value from diagnosis to late stages of disease. This approach allows monitoring of treatment responses and outcomes at specific time points in trajectories.

Finite element analysis of titanium anatomic plate and titanium reconstructive plate for treatment of extra-articular fractures of the scapula

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2023
Background Due to the lack of postoperative reporting outcomes and bio-mechanical studies, an optimal management of scapular fractures has not been well-established in clinical treatment, even though there are many options available.

Anatomically informed Bayesian spatial priors for fMRI analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Existing Bayesian spatial priors for functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data correspond to stationary isotropic smoothing filters that may oversmooth at anatomical boundaries. We propose two anatomically informed Bayesian spatial models for fMRI data with local smoothing in each voxel based on a tensor field estimated from a T1-weighted ...

Integrating Genomic Knowledge Sources through an Anatomy Ontology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Modern genomic research has access to a plethora of knowledge sources. Often, it is imperative that researchers combine and integrate knowledge from multiple perspectives.

Peripheral blood leukocyte signatures as biomarkers in relapsed ovarian cancer patients receiving combined anti‐CD73/anti‐PD‐L1 immunotherapy in arm A of the NSGO‐OV‐UMB1/ENGOT‐OV30 trial

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using mass cytometry, we analyzed serial blood samples from patients with relapsed epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) treated with oleclumab–durvalumab combination immunotherapy in the NSGO‐OV‐UMB1/ENGOT‐OV30 trial. Our analysis identified potential predictive, monitoring, and response biomarkers detectable through liquid biopsy. These findings facilitate

Clinical outcomes in neovascular age-related macular degeneration: a cohort study of patients with care delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to both intentional and unintentional care delay among age-related neovascular macular degeneration (nvAMD) patients. Prior studies have demonstrated that patients who discontinue nvAMD treatment for prolonged intervals are ...

The Anatomic Pathology Hospitalist Model

open access: yesArchives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
Context.— Challenges to staffing a high-quality frozen section service include consolidation of health systems and pathology practices, off-campus relocation of some pathology offices, growing numbers of stand-alone surgery centers, and subspecialization among pathologists and surgeons.

Targeting PRAME directly or via EZH2 inhibition overcomes retinoid resistance and represents a novel therapy for keratinocyte carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The study evaluated the function and therapeutic implications of PRAME in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The findings demonstrate that PRAME impairs keratinocyte differentiation pathways. Furthermore, PRAME impairs anticancer response to retinoid compounds in BCC and SCC cells.
