Magnetic Field Control Using an Electromagnetic Actuation System with Combined Air‐Core and Metal‐Core Coils

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
An electromagnetic manipulation system enhances magnetic field strength in the Z‐direction for 3D control of microrobots and nanoparticles. Featuring eight metal‐core coils and two air‐core coils arranged hemispherically, it ensures unimpeded workspace access and integrates imaging tools.

On the ‘simple’ form of the gravitational action and the self-interacting graviton

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
The so-called ΓΓ-form of the gravitational Lagrangian, long known to provide its most compact expression as well as the most efficient generation of the graviton vertices, is taken as the starting point for discussing General Relativity as a theory of ...

Model of Two-Dimensional Quantum Gravity in the Strong Coupling Regime [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1995
A model of two-dimensional quantum gravity that is the analog of the tensionless string is proposed. The gravitational constant ($k$) is the analog of the Regge slope ($ ^{'}$) and it shows that when $k \rightarrow \infty$, $2D$ quantum gravity can be understood as a tensionless string theory embeded in a two-dimensional target space.

Bubbles Acting as Micro End‐Effectors for Dexterous Manipulation and Sensing in Aqueous Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
Inspired by bubbles, this article proposes a low‐cost method for multifunctional manipulation and sensing using microbubbles in aqueous environments. Bubbles are easily generated in situ, enabling the safe and adaptive handling of microobjects and sensing of microforces and surface textures.

Branes in JT (super)gravity from group theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
In this work, we revisit the end-of-the-world (EOW) brane amplitudes in JT gravity from a BF gauge theoretic perspective. Observing and identifying the correct group theoretic ingredient for a closed EOW brane as a discrete series character, we use the ...

Local phase space and edge modes for diffeomorphism-invariant theories

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
We discuss an approach to characterizing local degrees of freedom of a subregion in diffeomorphism-invariant theories using the extended phase space of Donnelly and Freidel [36].

Predicting Performance of Hall Effect Ion Source Using Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
This study introduces HallNN, a machine learning tool for predicting Hall effect ion source performance using a neural network ensemble trained on data generated from numerical simulations. HallNN provides faster and more accurate predictions than numerical methods and traditional scaling laws, making it valuable for designing and optimizing Hall ...

A Novel Parameter Estimation Method for Pneumatic Soft Hand Control Applying Logarithmic Decrement for Pseudo‐Rigid Body Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
In this research, a paradigm of parameter estimation method for pneumatic soft hand control is proposed. The method includes the following: 1) sampling harmonic damping waves, 2) applying pseudo‐rigid body modeling and the logarithmic decrement method, and 3) deriving position and force control.

Soft Magnetic Sensor Array for Amphibious Measurement of 3D Muscle Deformation Distribution for Human Motion Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article develops a soft magnetic sensor array to extract 3D and distributional muscle deformations, which has highly consistent measurements in amphibious environments, robustness to hydraulic pressure, and about 200 ms faster response than an inertial measurement unit, achieving over 98% classification accuracy and below 3% phase estimation ...
