Image_1_The optimized carbapenem inactivation method for objective and accurate detection of carbapenemase-producing Acinetobacter baumannii.TIF

open access: yes, 2023
The modified carbapenem inactivation method (mCIM) recommended by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute is not applicable for detecting carbapenemases in Acinetobacter baumannii. Four currently reported phenotypic detection methods, namely, the

Beyond Nature's Blueprint: Macrocyclic Peptides Containing Unnatural Amino Acids in Therapeutic Development

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Strategic incorporation of unnatural amino acids transforms macrocyclic peptides into drug‐like molecules capable of engaging challenging targets. These building blocks enhance stability, permeability, and bioavailability, accelerating the development of next‐generation peptide therapeutics.

Evaluate the Modified Carbapenem Inactivation Method for Phenotypic Detection of Carbapenemase Production Among Gram-Negative Bacteria

open access: yesArchives of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, 2022
Background: Global growing infections by multi-drug resistance (MDR) or extensively drug-resistant (XDR) bacteria are a serious public health problem which can increase the rate of mortality and morbidity even in children. Carbapenem is the last choice therapy in case of antibiotic-resistant bacteria presence.

Comparative study of phenotypic-based detection assays for carbapenemase-producing Acinetobacter baumannii with a proposed algorithm in resource-limited settings.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
The increasing incidence of carbapenem resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii is a critical concern worldwide owing to the limitations of therapeutic alternatives. The most important carbapenem resistance mechanism for A.

Phenotypic detection of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales and carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa by mCIM and eCIM and their ceftazidime-avibactam with aztreonam synergy profile in a tertiary care hospital in Eastern India

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences
Background: Worldwide, the emergence of carbapenem-resistant enterobacterales (CRE) and carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA) is a global concern to public health as they are responsible for several serious infections that lead to elevated ...

The Interplay Between Molybdopterin Synthase and Metal Metabolism Contributes to Pathogenicity in Acinetobacter baumannii

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pathogenic Acinetobacter baumannii scavenges metal ions as nutritional elements to survive within the host. This study demonstrates that molybdopterin synthase is essential for pathogenesis and full virulence during infection. Molybdopterin synthase subunit MoaE constitutes an intrinsically disordered C‐terminal histidine rich tail, which mediates ...

Does the presence of multiple β-lactamases in Gram-negative bacilli impact the results of antimicrobial susceptibility tests and extended-spectrum β-lactamase and carbapenemase confirmation methods?

open access: yesJournal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance, 2020
Objectives: Many multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacilli (MDR-GNB) harbour multiple β-lactamases. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of multiple β-lactamase carriage on the accuracy of susceptibility tests and extended-spectrum β-lactamase (

Structural compatibility between β‐lactams and substrate binding pockets of IMP‐1 and NDM‐1 determines the substrate spectrum

open access: yesBulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, EarlyView.
Chemical structures of three β‐lactam classes and the substrate‐binding pockets (SBPs) of B1 metallo‐β‐lactamases (MBLs) were compared. Structural compatibility between β‐lactams and MBL SBPs correlates with enzymatic activity, providing insights into the substrate spectrum of MBLs and β‐lactam resistance.
