Aromatic Interactions by Molecular Tweezers and Clips in Chemical and Biological Systems
Accounts of Chemical Research, 2012Noncovalent interactions involving aromatic rings, such as π-stacking and CH-π, occur throughout a range of fundamental processes including self-assembly and (bio)catalysis. Molecular clips and tweezers possess a central parallel or torus-shaped cavity with a surrounding belt of convergent aromatic rings; hence these structures exploit multiple ...

A new alligator-clip compound for molecular electronics
Chemical Physics Letters, 2004We used the B3LYP flavor of density functional calculations to study new alligator-clip compounds for molecular electronics with platinum electrodes. First, with commonly used S-based linkage molecule 3-methyl-1,2-dithiolane (MDTL) we find that after chemisorption on Pt(1 1 1) the most stable structure is ring-opened with a binding energy of 32.44 kcal/

Asymmetrical Molecular Junctions with different Alligator Clips
International Journal of Materials Science and Engineering, 2014This paper describes different molecular junctions with different alligator clips connected to gold electrodes at nanometre-scale. Our objective was to determine the charge transport characteristics of these junctions and determine the optimum alligator clip pair. We scrutinised anthracenedithiol (ADT), anthracenediamine (ADA) and anthracenethiolamine (

Coordination-Driven Assembly of Molecular Rectangles via an Organometallic “Clip”
Organic Letters, 2000The combination of linear dipyridyl ligands with a new type of modular building unit, based upon a 1,8-platinum-functionalized anthracene, leads to the self-organization of rectangular frameworks. X-ray crystallography confirms the cyclic structure of the supramolecular cationic complexes.

Molecular characterization of two functional domains of CLIP-170 in vivo
Journal of Cell Science, 1994ABSTRACT CLIP-170 is a microtubule-binding protein isolated from HeLa cells that is involved in the interaction of endosomes with microtubules. The basic N-terminal domain of CLIP-170 binds to microtubules in vitro. To characterize further the functional domains of this cytoplasmic linker protein, we have transiently expressed intact and

Molecular Clip and Tweezer Introduce New Mechanisms of Enzyme Inhibition
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2008Artificial molecular clips and tweezers, designed for cofactor and amino acid recognition, are able to inhibit the enzymatic activity of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH). IC50 values and kinetic investigations point to two different new mechanisms of interference with the NAD(+)-dependent oxidoreductase: While the clip seems to pull the cofactor out of its ...

Thiourea-based molecular clips for fluorescent discrimination of isomeric dicarboxylates
Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2007A new clip-like receptor, which comprises two thiourea-based binding groups and two naphthalene units, has been designed and synthesized as a fluorescent chemosensor for distinguishing o-phthalate from two other isomers of dicarboxylates. Upon the addition of these three ions, the emission intensity at 420 nm (excitation at 340 nm) decreases ...

Quinoline-based molecular clips for selective fluorescent detection of Zn2+
Dalton Transactions, 2006New selective Zn2+ fluorescent sensors, di(2-quinoline-carbaldehyde)-2,2'-bibenzoyl-hydrazone (QB1) and di(2-quinolinecarbaldehyde)-6,6'-dicarboxylic acid hydrazone-2,2'-bipyridine (QB2), have been designed and prepared. Both QB sensors exhibit an emission band centered at 405 nm (excitation at 350 nm) with low quantum yield.
