ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.

Electron heating and thermal relaxation of gold nanorods revealed by two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Electron dynamics in plasmonic nanoparticles are often studied with transient absorption spectroscopy. Here, Lietard et al. apply two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy, a method generally used for molecular spectroscopy, to study ultrafast nonlinear ...

Do Osmolytes Impact the Structure and Dynamics of Myoglobin?

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Osmolytes are small organic compounds that can affect the stability of proteins in living cells. The mechanism of osmolytes’ protective effects on protein structure and dynamics has not been fully explained, but in general, two possibilities have ...

Multiplex flow magnetic tweezers reveal rare enzymatic events with single molecule precision

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Single molecule force measurements have shed light on dynamic biological events, but rare events escape notice owing to low throughput of the methods. Here, the authors combine an array of magnetic tweezers with lateral flow to increase throughput 100 ...

Ab initio mass tensor molecular dynamics

open access: yes, 2010
Mass tensor molecular dynamics was first introduced by Bennett [J. Comput. Phys. 19, 267 (1975)] for efficient sampling of phase space through the use of generalized atomic masses.

Molecular Dynamics of a Crystal [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, 1904
§ 1. The object of this communication is to partially realise the hope expressed at the end of my paper of July 1 and July 15, 1889, on the “Molecular Constitution of Matter”:—“The mathematical investigation must be deferred for a future communication, when I hope to give it with some further developments.” The italics are of present date.Following the

Redox‐dependent binding and conformational equilibria govern the fluorescence decay of NAD(P)H in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this work, we reveal how different enzyme binding configurations influence the fluorescence decay of NAD(P)H in live cells using time‐resolved anisotropy imaging and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM). Mathematical modelling shows that the redox states of the NAD and NADP pools govern these configurations, shaping their fluorescence ...

Removal of back-reflection noise at ultrathin imaging probes by the single-core illumination and wide-field detection

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Thin waveguides such as graded-index lenses and fiber bundles are often used as imaging probes for high-resolution endomicroscopes. However, strong back-reflection from the end surfaces of the probes makes it difficult for them to resolve weak contrast ...

Local Molecular Dynamics with Coulombic Interaction

open access: yes, 2004
We propose a local, O(N) molecular dynamics algorithm for the simulation of charged systems. The long ranged Coulomb potential is generated by a propagating electric field that obeys modified Maxwell equations. On coupling the electrodynamic equations to

Ergothioneine supplementation improves pup phenotype and survival in a murine model of spinal muscular atrophy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease affecting motor neurons. Individuals with SMA experience mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of an antioxidant and neuroprotective substance, ergothioneine (ERGO), on an SMNΔ7 mouse model of SMA.
