Cereal crops as viable production and storage systems for pharmaceutical scFv antibodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
S.583-590This report describes the stable expression of a medically important antibody in the staple cereal crops rice and wheat. We successfully expressed a single-chain Fv antibody (ScFvT84.66) against carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), a well ...

Molecular Dynamics‐Guided Sterol Engineering of mRNA‐Lipid Nanoparticles Reprograms Biodistribution and Enhances Spleen‐Selective Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sterol engineering enables precise control of mRNA lipid nanoparticles by tuning membrane organization. Replacing cholesterol with bile acid‐derived sterols redirects protein expression from the liver to the spleen. Notably, CA‐20 LNP enhances antigen‐specific immune responses while exhibiting a favorable safety profile, highlighting sterols as a ...

Donor–Acceptor Covalent Organic Framework Enables Ambipolar Charge Storage in Aluminum‐Ion Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A donor–acceptor covalent organic framework is designed as an ambipolar cathode for aluminum‐ion energy storage. The crystalline, microporous architecture enables intrinsic charge transport without conductive additives. Multi‐electron redox activity at donor and acceptor sites supports high capacity, excellent stability, and efficient reversible ...

Plant molecular pharming (PMP) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018

Molecular pharming in plants and plant cell cultures: a great future ahead?

open access: yesPharmaceutical Bioprocessing, 2014
Plant biotechnology may not be a familiar concept to the general public, but it is a rapidly developing field of research that involves the use of plants, plant tissues and plant cell cultures to make or modify products and processes. The versatility of plants and plant cells can be harnessed to produce diverse products, including valuable proteins ...

Dietary Mannan‐Rich Fractions Attenuate Weaning Stress in Piglets via Modulating Gut Microbiota and TLR5/NF‐κB Signaling

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study aimed to investigate the potential of a mannan‐rich fraction (MRF) as a dietary intervention to alleviate weaning stress in piglets. Our results revealed that MRF could alleviate weaning stress by modulating the gut microbiota and the TLR5/NF‐κB signaling pathway, offering a novel and sustainable alternative to antibiotic use in swine ...

Seeds as a Production System for Molecular Pharming Applications: Status and Prospects

open access: yesCurrent Pharmaceutical Design, 2013
The production of recombinant proteins in seeds is achieved by driving transgene expression using promoters and protein targeting sequences derived from genes encoding abundant seed storage proteins. This approach is advantageous because high yields, stability and containment are conferred by the accumulation of recombinant proteins in specialized ...

HLA‐B*15:21 carrier status is a susceptibility factor of carbamazepine‐induced nonimmediate cutaneous adverse reactions in HLA‐B*15:02‐negative patients: A retrospective cohort study

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
After HLA‐B*15:02 screening, the residual risk of carbamazepine‐induced nonimmediate cutaneous adverse reactions is 0.059. Among these HLA‐B*15:02‐negative cases, HLA‐B*15:11 and HLA‐B*15:21 carrier status significantly increases the risk of carbamazepine‐induced nonimmediate cADR.

Shape‐directed formation of T8/T6 Zn–siloxane clusters and their deep‐UV shielding properties

open access: yesBulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, EarlyView.
The shape and conformational characteristics of silane substituents direct the assembly of Zn–siloxane clusters into conventional T8 or rare T6 siloxane frameworks. Non‐planar cyclic substituents selectively promote T6 formation through steric effects, while the resulting clusters exhibit deep‐ultraviolet absorption and can be processed into ...
