Emerging Technologies for the Detection of Rabies Virus: Challenges and Hopes in the 21st Century [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The diagnosis of rabies is routinely based on clinical and epidemiological information, especially when exposures are reported in rabies-endemic countries.

Sex Identification of Newly Hatched Chicks by Fluorescence in situ Hybridization using a W-specific DNA Probe in Feather Follicle Cells

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2012
The identification of the sex of chickens or chicken cells has biological and industrial significance. In the laboratory, molecular techniques have utilized W chromosome-specific repetitive DNA sequence fragments, such as Xho I or EcoR I family, for ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Parylene Technology for Neural Probes Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Neural probes are important tools in detecting and studying neuron activities. Although people have been working on neural probe development for a long time, the current neural probes (including metal-wire probes and silicon neural probes) are still far ...

Sub-microscopic schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminths in school children: molecular diagnostic evidence and implications for disease elimination

open access: yesScientific Reports
Schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis elimination programmes depend heavily on microscopic diagnostics, yet these methods may fail to detect low-intensity infections that sustain transmission.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Validation and clinical application of molecular methods for the identification of molds in tissue

open access: yes, 2006
Background. Invasive fungal infections due to less-common molds are an increasing problem, and accurate diagnosis is difficult.Methods. We used our previously established molecular method, which allows species identification of molds in histological ...
