The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Molecular Properties and New Potentials of Plant Nepenthesins

open access: yesPlants, 2020
Nepenthesins are aspartic proteases (APs) categorized under the A1B subfamily. Due to nepenthesin-specific sequence features, the A1B subfamily is also named nepenthesin-type aspartic proteases (NEPs). Nepenthesins are mostly known from the pitcher fluid

Therapeutic properties of isoliquiritigenin with molecular modeling studies: investigation of anti-pancreatic acinar cell tumor and HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor activity for treatment of hypercholesterolemia

open access: yesArchives of Medical Science, 2022
Introduction Isoliquiritigenin, one of the components in the root of Glycyrrhiza glabra L., is a member of the flavonoids, which are known to have anti-tumor activity in vitro and in vivo.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Nanoscale Fluid Transport: From Molecular Signatures to Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Motivated by the fact that many novel fluid transport phenomena have been discovered at nano length scales, in this thesis I use molecular dynamics simulations to investigate how a solid surface affects the fluid properties and fluid transport in ...

Explaining molecular properties with natural language [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
We present a model-agnostic method that gives natural language explanations of molecular structure property predictions. Machine learning models are now common for molecular property prediction and chemical design.

Visualizing oxygen transport pathways during intergranular oxidation in Ni-Cr

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation, 2023
The transport paths of O during intergranular oxidation in binary Ni-Cr were investigated. To isolate the selective oxidation of Cr, oxidation was performed with a CO/CO2 gas mixture in which the oxygen partial pressure was kept under the NiO ...

Dependence of the Ripeness Stage on the Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Properties of Walnut (Juglans regia L.) Green Husk Extracts from Industrial By-Products

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Walnut green husk (WGH) is a waste generated by the walnut (Juglans regia L.) harvest industry. It represents a natural source of polyphenols, compounds with antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, but their activity could be dependent on the ripeness ...

Thermodynamic Properties of Molecular Communication [PDF]

open access: yes2018 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2018
In this paper, we consider the energy cost of communicating using molecular communication. In a simplified scenario, we show that the energy bound in Landauer's principle can be achieved, implying that molecular communication can approach fundamental thermodynamic limits.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
