Tuning the Mechanical Properties of Dicyanamide-Based Molecular Perovskites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
ABX3 molecular perovskites have recently gained attention in the field of ferroelectrics and barocalorics where the materials’ mechanical properties such as mechanical stability, compressibility, hardness, and elasticity are important performance ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Variations in dissolved organic matter during wastewater treatment in natural gas purification plants

open access: yesGongye shui chuli
Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is a pivotal determinant for wastewater discharge compliance standards. A comprehensive analysis of the molecular composition of DOM is imperative for its efficient removal.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Molecular Properties of the Monoamine Oxidases [PDF]

open access: yesSchizophrenia Bulletin, 1980
To understand the biological significance of a decreased platelet MAO activity in schizophrenia, it is important to answer many questions about the basic molecular properties of the enzyme. The past decade has witnessed a huge expansion of research in this area which has provided some of these answers.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Materials properties from electron density distributions: Molecular magnetism and linear optical properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The general goal of this thesis is correlating observable properties of organic and metal-organic materials with their ground-state electron density distribution. In a long-term view, we expect to develop empirical or semi-empirical approaches to predict
