Inhibition of ATP-synthase potentiates cytotoxicity of combination drug menadione/ascorbate in leukaemia lymphocytes

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2021
The combination drug menadione/ascorbate (M/A) manifests synergistic dose-dependent antiproliferative and cytotoxic effects towards cancer cells, but not towards normal cells of the same origin especially at concentrations that can be achieved in vivo by

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Quantum Chemical Studies on the Corrosion Inhibition of Mild Steel by Some Triazoles and Benzimidazole Derivatives in Acidic Medium

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2012
Quantum chemical calculations using the Density Functional Theory (DFT) method at three different basis sets, namely, 6-31(d,p), 6-31+(d,p) and 6-311G(d,p) were performed on selected triazole and benzimidazole derivatives, namely 2-aminobenzimidazole ...

Prediction of Molecular Properties Using Molecular Topographic Map

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Prediction of molecular properties plays a critical role towards rational drug design. In this study, the Molecular Topographic Map (MTM) is proposed, which is a two-dimensional (2D) map that can be used to represent a molecule.

Some Molecular Properties of Rhodanese

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1970
Abstract Fluorescence studies of crystalline bovine liver rhodanese indicate that the reactive sulfhydryl group is in a region which can participate in hydrophobic (apolar) interactions. Fluorescence polarization studies confirm that rhodanese exists in a mobile monomer-dimer equilibrium.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Novel static magnetic field effects on green chemistry biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
The bacteriocidal properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) depend on their average diameter (toxicity increases with decreasing diameter). In the present work, we describe novel green chemistry biosynthesis of AgNPs from AgNO3 added to cell-free ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
