Structural properties and enthalpy of formation of magnesium hydride from quantum Monte Carlo calculations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We have used diffusion Monte Carlo (DMC) calculations to study the structural properties of magnesium hydride (MgH$_2$), including the pressure-volume equation of state, the cohesive energy and the enthalpy of formation from magnesium bulk and hydrogen gas.

Mosaic moles and non-familial biparental moles are not caused by mutations in NLRP7, NLRP2 or C6orf221.

open access: yesMolecular human reproduction, 2012
Hydatidiform moles (HMs) most often occur sporadically and are either diploid androgenetic or triploid. The very rare familial recurrent HMs (FRHMs) have been related to NLRP7 and C6orf221 mutations in the mother.

Autoigniton of n-Butanol at Low to Intermediate Temperature and Elevated Pressure [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Autoignition delay experiments were performed for n-butanol in a heated rapid compression machine. Experiments were performed at pressures of 15 and 30 bar, in the temperature range 650-900 K, and for equivalence ratios of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0. Additionally, the initial fuel mole fraction and initial oxygen mole fraction were varied independently to ...

The mole misunderstood

open access: yesNew Directions, 2010
In every area of science there are some ideas that many students find difficult to grasp. A lack of understanding of key ideas can limit a student‟s ability to grasp and apply fundamental principles of their discipline. Previous work in this area, by Taber, has focused on this problem at school level.

Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing of High‐Nitrogen Alloyed FeCr(Si)N Stainless Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The alloying element Nitrogen enhances stainless steel strength, corrosion resistance, and stabilizes austenite. This study develops austenitic FeCr(Si)N steel production via powder metallurgy. Fe20Cr and Si3N4 are hot isostatically pressed, creating an austenitic microstructure.

Investigation of the role of exogenous use of sucrose as an osmoprotectant in increasing Azolla filiculoides resistance to air high temperature and salt stress

open access: yes‬‭Majallah-i ̒Ilmī-i Shīlāt-i Īrān, 2008
Influence of 2.75 to 11 moles sucrose as an exogenous osmoprotectant on salt stressed (7.8-9.1 and 18.2 ms/cm) and temperature stressed (42.36C) Azolla (A. filiculoides Lam.) was studied.

The genetics of recurrent hydatidiform moles in China: correlations between NLRP7 mutations, molar genotypes and reproductive outcomes.

open access: yesMolecular human reproduction, 2011
Hydatidiform mole (HM) is a human pregnancy with abnormal embryonic development. NLRP7 is a major autosomal recessive gene responsible for recurrent molar pregnancies and associated reproductive wastage in patients from several populations.

Low‐Activation Compositionally Complex Alloys for Advanced Nuclear Applications—A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐activation compositionally complex alloys (LACCAs) are advanced metallic materials primarily composed of low‐activation elements, offering advantages such as rapid compliance with operational standards and safe recyclability. This review highlights their potential for extreme high‐temperature irradiation environments as structural materials for ...
