Elucidating the physiological significance of iodate reduction in Shewanella species

open access: yesmLife, Volume 5, Issue 4, Page 507-519, August 2026.
Abstract The reduction of iodate by Shewanella species plays a crucial role in iodine biogeochemical cycling. However, the physiological significance of this reduction process remains poorly understood, because Shewanella species are capable of reducing only low concentrations of iodate.

Putative Mechanisms for Initial Reaction of Anaerobic Benzene Degradation Presumably Involving a Flavoprotein

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 8, August 2026.
Anaerobic biodegradation of benzene by sulphate‐reducing strain BzS1 was studied by combining genomics, differential proteomics and targeted metabolite analyses. Strain BzS1 has an exceptionally streamlined metabolism. A highly abundant heterotrimeric flavoprotein may add benzene to either enolpyruvate or glutaconyl‐CoA followed by channelling into the

Crystal Structure of Formate Dehydrogenase H: Catalysis Involving Mo, Molybdopterin, Selenocysteine, and an Fe\u3csub\u3e4\u3c/sub\u3eS\u3csub\u3e4\u3c/sub\u3e Cluster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Formate dehydrogenase H from Escherichia coli contains selenocysteine (SeCys), molybdenum, two molybdopterin guanine dinucleotide (MGD) cofactors, and an Fe4S4 cluster at the active site and catalyzes the two-electron oxidation of formate to carbon ...

Advancing the Resolution of the Sulfur Compound Disproportionation Puzzle in Dissulfuribacter Thermophilus S69ᵀ Through Quantitative Label‐Free Comparative Proteomics

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 4, August 2026.
To date, only three microorganisms have been functionally characterised for sulfur disproportionation. Our work identifies a fourth example and provides novel proteomic insights into its underlying pathways. These findings advance our understanding of microbial sulfur catabolism and highlight the ecological role of D.

Ligand‐Level Chemical Activation: Coordination with Benefits

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, Volume 29, Issue 19, 2 July 2026.
While often perceived as a liability, ligand‐based reactivity in carefully designed settings becomes a powerful synthetic tool. The key to streamlined processes overriding classical ionic reactivity is the selective electron redistribution induced by metal coordination. This enables storage of electrons and protons or incorporation of functional groups

MocA is a specific cytidylyltransferase involved in molybdopterin cytosine dinucleotide biosynthesis in Escherichia coli

open access: yes, 2009
We have purified and characterized a specific CTP: molybdopterin cytidylyltransferase for the biosynthesis of the molybdopterin (MPT) cytosine dinucleotide (MCD) cofactor in Escherichia coli.

Vitamin‐Responsive Disorders: From Molecular Basis to Clinical Presentation and Therapy

open access: yesJournal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, Volume 49, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Vitamin‐dependent cofactors are essential for numerous metabolic reactions, and defects affecting their uptake, conversion, utilisation, or regeneration constitute a heterogeneous group of inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs). Although dietary vitamin intake is sufficient to sustain coenzyme synthesis in healthy individuals, it is insufficient

Molybdopterin-Modeling: The Synthesis of Pterin Dithiolene Ligands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The synthesis of pterin-dithiolene ligands was achieved by employing the radical nucleophilic substitution, i.e. the so-called “Minisci- Reaction”1. This protocol was used for the first time by Professor W.

Integrated genomic and transcriptomic approaches reveal oxidative stress adaptation mechanisms in a mesotrione‐resistant Amaranthus tuberculatus biotype

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 7, Page 6387-6398, July 2026.
Integrated GWAS and transcriptomics in a Canadian waterhemp biotype reveal mesotrione resistance is polygenic and metabolically driven. Significant SNPs and 187 herbicide‐responsive genes point to enhanced redox homeostasis, glutathione‐linked detoxification, lipid/secondary metabolism, and oxidative stress responses. Resistance arises from coordinated,

Characterisation of the Pterin Molybdenum Cofactor in Dimethylsulfoxide Reductase of Rhodobacter capsulatus and the periplasmic Nitrate Reductase of Paracoccus denitrificans

open access: yes, 1997
Analysis of dimethylsulfoxide reductase from Rhodobacter capsulatus showed that it contained 1 mol Mo and 2 mol GMP. This indicates that the molybdenum cofactor in dimethylsulfoxide reductase is bis(molybdopterin guanine dinucleotide) molybdenum.
