Antioxidant property of Fructus Momordicae extract

IUBMB Life, 1996
AbstractThe antioxidant effect of Fructus Momordicae extract, FME (mogrosides 75‐80%), was studied. FME reduced the stable free radical 1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and scavenged superoxide radicals (O2‐) generated by a hypoxanthine and xanthine oxidase system. It also scavenged hydroxyl radicals (⊎OH) generated by Fenton reaction. In addition,

A lanostane aldehyde from Momordica charantia

Phytochemistry Letters, 2012
A new lanostane aldehyde, charantal (1), was isolated from the ethanolic leaf extract of Momordica charantia together with the known compound, 2,4-bis(2-phenylpropan-2-yl)phenol (2). The structure of compound 1 was elucidated by extensive 1D and 2D NMR and MS experiments.

The Antigluconeogenic Activity of Cucurbitacins from Momordica charantia

Planta Medica, 2015
Five new cucurbitacins, kuguacins II-VI (1-5), along with five known analogues (6-10), were obtained from the fruit of Momordica charantia. Structures of the new compounds were elucidated as 5β,19-epoxycucurbit-23-en-7-on-3β,25-diol (1), 5β,19-epoxycucurbit-7,23-dion-3β,25-diol (2), 5β,19-epoxycucurbit-6-en-19,23-dion-3β,25-diol (3), 5β,19-epoxy-23,24 ...

Hypoglycaemic Effect ofMomordica charantiaExtracts

Planta Medica, 1990
The hypoglycaemic effect of orally administered extracts of fruits of cultivated Momordica charantia (karela) was examined in normal and streptozotocin diabetic mice. In normal mice, an aqueous extract (A) lowered the glycaemic response to both oral and intraperitoneal glucose, without altering the insulin response.

Extra-pancreatic effects of Momordica charantia in rats

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 1986
The extra pancreatic effects of the oral hypoglycaemic plant Momordica charantia have been investigated in rats. It was found that the fruit juice of this plant caused an increased glucose uptake by tissues in vitro without concomitant increase of tissue respiration.
