The Effect of Monensin Sodium on Trace Element Status of Cattle at Pasture
1988When fed to sheep and cattle the carboxylic ionophore, monensin sodium, can produce a wide variety of effects on ruminai function with the main effect being a decrease in the acetate:propionate ratio1. Monensin has been used to increase feed conversion efficiency in cattle and sheep fed high concentrate diets and also to improve average daily gain in ...

Electrophysiological effects of monensin, a sodium ionophore, on cardiac Purkinje fibers.
European journal of pharmacology, 1991Monensin, a monovalent cation ionophore, transports sodium ions preferentially. We found that, in the cardiac Purkinje fibers, monensin 10(-5) M increased the resting tension of the fiber bundle in Tyrode solution containing 4.5 mM Ca. This ionophore (10(-5) M) shortened the duration of the action potential and suppressed the pacemaker potential. In Na-

[Tolerance, toxicity and residues of Pharmachim's sodium monensin in pigs].
Veterinarno-meditsinski nauki, 1986Studied was the use of monensin-sodium Pharmachim (MSP) in the form of a 10 per cent premix. The tolerance of the preparation was followed up along with the subchronic toxicity and the residual amounts with pigs. It was established that amounts of 10, 20, and 30 mg/kg body mass at single application produced a lethal effect.
