Altered states, alkaloids, and catatonia: Monoaminoxidase inhibitors and their role in the history of psychopharmacology

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
Monoamine oxidases are mitochondrial enzymes that catalyze the oxidative deamination of biogenic amines (adrenaline, noradrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine), causing their inactivation and subsequently playing a fundamental role in the homeostasis of ...

Monoamine oxidase A expression is vital for embryonic brain development by modulating developmental apoptosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Monoamine oxidases (MAO-A, MAO-B) metabolize biogenic amines and have been implicated in neuronal apoptosis. Although apoptosis is an important process in embryo development, the role of MAO isoenzymes has not been investigated in detail.

Lactylation‐Driven YTHDC1 Alleviates MASLD by Suppressing PTPN22‐Mediated Dephosphorylation of NLRP3

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In MASLD, YTHDC1 undergoes increased lactylation and ubiquitination, reducing its expression. AARS1 mediates lactylation at lysine 565, while disrupted binding to LDHA further promotes lactylation, suppressing YTHDC1. This downregulation enhances PTPN22 mRNA stability, leading to NLRP3 dephosphorylation and activation, which exacerbates inflammation ...

Expression regulation of MAO isoforms in monocytic cells in response to Th2 cytokines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background: Th2-cytokines, such as interleukins-4 and –13 (IL-4, IL-13), have been identified as alternative stimuli of monocytes/macrophages. We have recently profiled the gene-expression pattern of IL-4-teated human peripheral monocytes and found that ...

Neuroprotective Effects of Time‐Restricted Feeding Combined With Different Protein Sources in MPTP‐Induced Parkinson's Disease Mice Model and Its Modulatory Impact on Gut Microbiota Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) exerts protein‐dependent neuroprotective effects in an MPTP‐induced Parkinson's disease model. In casein‐fed mice, TRF improves gut barrier integrity and reduces neuroinflammation, possibly via modulation of Allobaculum and BCAAs.

A Renal Clearable Probe for In Vivo Monoamine Oxidase (MAO) Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A renal‐clearable Cy7‐based fluorogenic probe enables rapid and non‐invasive detection of monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity in vivo. Upon MAO‐mediated activation, the fluorescent product is efficiently excreted in urine, allowing direct quantification of enzyme overexpression.

Computationally Assisted Lead Optimization of Novel Potent and Selective MAO-B Inhibitors

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2021
A series of dietary flavonoid acacetin 7-O-methyl ether derivatives were computationally designed aiming to improve the selectivity and potency profiles against monoamine oxidase (MAO) B.

Lipid peroxidation and apoptotic response in rat brain areas induced by long-term administration of nandrolone: the mutual crosstalk between ROS and NF-kB [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The aim of this study was to evaluate the played by oxidative stress in the apoptotic response in different brain areas of rats chronically treated with supra-physiological doses of nandrolone decanoate (ND).

A Cascade Recognition of Activatable Probe for Fluorescence Navigation Glioblastoma Surgery: Overcoming Blood‐Brain Barrier and Off‐Target Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cascade recognition of activatable probe ANG‐hCy‐MC is used for high‐precision depiction of glioblastoma (GBM) margin. This probe crosses the blood‐brain barrier (BBB) through LRP1 receptor‐mediated transport and provides excellent fluorescence signal contrast between the tumor and normal tissues, thereby enabling ultra‐selective imaging and precise ...

Lysyl Oxidase-like Protein Recognizes Viral Envelope Proteins and Bacterial Polysaccharides against Pathogen Infection via Induction of Expression of Antimicrobial Peptides

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Lysyl oxidases (LOXs) are copper-dependent monoamine oxidases, and they play critical roles in extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. The LOX and LOX-like (LOXL) proteins also have a variety of biological functions, such as development and growth ...
