Blood monocyte chemotaxis

Migration is a prerequisite for blood monocytes to exert their biological activities, since they have to migrate from blood into the tissues where they transform into macrophages. In vivo chemotaxis of blood monocytes is seldom evaluated, while their in vitro ability to migrate is frequently tested.

Chronic monocytic leukaemia

A patient with chronic monocytic leukaemia is described. The cells in his peripheral blood are predominantly mature monocytes, and bone marrow biopsy revealed extensive marrow infiltration with cells of monocyte series in all stages of maturity. He has so far remained in moderately good health without specific treatment for fifty-two months.
