Network Topology Governs Photocatalytic Water Splitting in Organic Two‐Dimensional Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Network topology in organic two‐dimensional crystals (O2DCs) dictates the photocatalytic water splitting performance. Kagome‐lattice O2DCs exhibit strong electron‐hole mass asymmetry, spatially separated carriers, and longer recombination lifetimes, exceeding rhombic isomers.

A Predictive Model for Monolayer‐Selective Metal‐Mediated MoS2 Exfoliation Incorporating Electrostatics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
The metal‐mediated exfoliation (MME) method enables monolayer‐selective exfoliation of van der Waals (vdW) crystals, improving the efficacy of large monolayer production.

Ion Migration in Monolayer MoS2 Memristors

open access: yes, 2022
Memristors hold great promise as building blocks for future computing architectures where memory and logic are combined at the hardware level. However, scaling down the dimensions of memristive devices has been limited by high leakage currents, thus inhibiting further progress.

Domain Engineering and Anisotropic Domain‐Wall Photovoltaic Effects in Ferroelectric SnS

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The bulk photovoltaic effect at domain walls in the in‐plane ferroelectric 2D semiconductor SnS is investigated using periodic domain structures. Unlike conventional oxide ferroelectrics, domain walls of SnS do not contribute to photocurrent generation perpendicular to the domain walls.

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

A DFT Study on the Adsorption of H2S and SO2 on Ni Doped MoS2 Monolayer

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2018
In this paper, a Ni-doped MoS2 monolayer (Ni-MoS2) has been proposed as a novel gas adsorbent to be used in SF6-insulated equipment. Based on the first-principles calculation, the adsorption properties of Ni-MoS2 to SO2 and H2S molecules, the main ...

Passivating the sulfur vacancy in monolayer MoS2

open access: yesAPL Materials, 2018
Various methods to passivate the sulfur vacancy in 2D MoS2 are modeled using density functional theory (DFT) to understand the passivation mechanism at an atomic scale. First, the organic super acid, bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide (TFSI) is a strong protonating agent, and it is experimentally found to greatly increase the photoluminescence efficiency.

Sub‐Nanometer Curvature Unlocks Quantum Orbital Flexoelectricity in Graphene

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
In self‐assembled, reproducible, large‐area, quasi‐pristine graphene nanowrinkles, extreme curvature forces out‐of‐plane π‐electrons toward hybridization, driving a transition from classical to quantum orbital flexoelectricity. As curvature approaches the fundamental physical limit set by the C─C bond length, the resulting polarization increases by ...

LEAD: Literature Enhanced Ab Initio Discovery of Nitride Dusting Layers for Enhanced Tunnel Magnetoresistance and Lower Resistance Magnetic Tunnel Junctions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) using MgO tunnel barriers face challenges of high resistance‐area product and low tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR). To discover alternative materials, Literature Enhanced Ab initio Discovery (LEAD) is developed. The LEAD‐predicted materials are theoretically evaluated, showing that MTJs with dusting of ScN or TiN on ...
