The Mononuclear Phagocyte System and Hemopoiesis

1980
The in vitro’bone marrow culture technique developed in recent years and employed in extensive studies has demonstrated that mononuclear phagocytes originate in the bone marrow. The colony forming cells are the committed precursors common to the granulocytic and monocytic lines.

The Mononuclear Phagocyte System

1990
The designation ‘mononuclear phagocyte system’ has replaced the previous more comprehensive name of ‘reticuloendothelial system’, as this included non-phagocytic cells, such as fibroblast and endothelial cells, and cells which did not arise from the monocyte—macrophage progenitor, which also produces the granulocytic cell line.

Dysfunction of the mononuclear phagocytic system in sepsis

APMIS, 1989
An in vivo study has been undertaken of the Fc(lgG) receptor‐mediated phagocytic capacity of macrophages (clearance of anti‐rhesus D‐coated‐51Cr‐labelled autologous erythrocytes, expressed as half‐lives) in 15 cases of sepsis to establish its behaviour and correlate this function to levels of circulating immune complexes (anti‐Clq‐nephelometry).

Characterization of the mononuclear phagocyte system in zebrafish

Blood, 2011
AbstractThe evolutionarily conserved immune system of the zebrafish (Danio rerio), in combination with its genetic tractability, position it as an excellent model system in which to elucidate the origin and function of vertebrate immune cells. We recently reported the existence of antigen-presenting mononuclear phagocytes in zebrafish, namely ...

Brain neocortex influence on the mononuclear phagocyte system

Journal of Neuroscience Research, 1989
AbstractThe cerebral neocortex is known to modulate asymmetrically certain components of the immune system. It was previously shown that large ablation of the left cortex reduces B and T cell‐mediated responses, whereas symmetrical right lesions enhance these responses.

Complement and the Mononuclear Phagocyte System

1993
This chapter will review current knowledge of the relationship between the complement system and mononuclear phagocytes. To familiarize the reader with the complement system, its nomenclature, biochemistry, and biological activities, a brief review has been included.

Neoplasms of the Mononuclear Phagocyte System

1983
Malignant neoplasms of the mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS) (Van Furth et al ., 1972) include acute and chronic monocytic leukemias, and various malignant histiocytoses. There is considerable confusion in the classification of these neoplasms, particularly in regard to the malignant histiocytoses and their separation from histiocytoses of varying ...

Disorders of the Mononuclear Phagocyte System

2016
Storage diseases are the consequence of inherited enzyme deficiencies that lead to accumulation of the substances that are incompletely catabolised in the cells of the mononuclear phagocyte system in organs such as the liver, spleen and bone marrow. Many of these products are derived from lipids of the cell membrane.

The RES and the Mononuclear Phagocyte System

1976
This paper is a discussion of the Reticuloendothelial System (RES) (1) and the Mononuclear Phagocyte System (MPS) (7) in an attempt to assess the relative meaning and merits of the two terms. It is a review and quite unoriginal. It is selective, subjective, opinionated and biassed.
