An Immuno-Fragile Profile Is Associated with Mortality Risk in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease

open access: yesBiomedicines
Background/Objectives: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) face higher risks of infections, poor vaccine responses, and cardiovascular diseases, leading to increased morbidity and mortality due to immune dysfunction and frailty. This study aims to

Delta and Gamma hedging of mortality and interest rate risk [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper studies the hedging problem of life insurance policies, when the mortality and interest rates are stochastic. We focus primar- ily on stochastic mortality. We represent death arrival as the rst jump time of a doubly stochastic process, i.e.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Anthropometry and mortality : a cohort study of rural Bangladeshi women. [PDF]

open access: yes
Many authors suggest that low anthropometric levels are associated with higher mortality risk in adults, In developing countries however there have been few opportunities to test this hypothesis.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Associations of urinary enterolignans and risk of overall and cause-specific mortality with or without serum albumin adjustment: a prospective cohort study

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundThe association between enterolignans (the bioavailable metabolites of dietary lignans) including enterolactone (ENL) and enterodiol (END) and long-term risk of mortality remains limited and inconclusive. Involvement of human serum albumin (HSA)

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic
