Combining endoscopic variceal ligation and omeprazole sodium in treating upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage combined with liver cirrhosis

open access: yesBMC Gastroenterology
Background Cirrhosis, a common chronic liver disease, leads to portal hypertension and complications like ascites and variceal bleeding. Endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) is the preferred treatment for variceal bleeding.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy disease results from disparate impairments of cardiac myosin function and auto-inhibition

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is caused by point mutations in sarcomeric proteins. Here the authors develop an optimized model of the sequestered state of cardiac myosin and define the features affecting the lever arm compliance, allowing them to ...

Motility states in bidirectional cargo transport

open access: yes, 2015
Intracellular cargos which are transported by molecular motors move stochastically along cytoskeleton filaments. In particular for bidirectionally transported cargos it is an open question whether the characteristics of their motion can result from pure ...

Comprehensive omics‐based classification system in adult patients with B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The COMBAT classification system, developed through multi‐omics integration, stratifies adult patients with B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia(B‐ALL) into three molecular subtypes with distinct surface antigen patterns, immune landscape, methylation patterns, biological pathways and prognosis.

Dose‐dependent induction of epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in 3D melanoma models by non‐thermal plasma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐thermal plasma treatment of melanoma cells induced epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in a dose‐dependent fashion. This report highlights the critical need to further investigate potential adverse effects of non‐thermal plasma for cancer therapy and to optimize treatment parameters for clinical translation. Despite the promising results of non‐

Unraveling LINE‐1 retrotransposition in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel RetroTest method allows the detection of L1 activation in clinical samples with low DNA input, providing global L1 activity and the identification of the L1 source element. We applied RetroTest to a real‐world cohort of HNSCC patients where we reported an early L1 activation, with more than 60% of T1 patients showing L1 activity.

Evidence for vertical motility in Campanian deep-water agglutinated foraminifera: The Furlo volcanic ash layer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Evidence for vertical motility has been observed among six Campanian deep-water agglutinated foraminiferal species from the Furlo Bentonite in the Umbria-Marche Basin ...

Simultaneous inhibition of TRIM24 and TRIM28 sensitises prostate cancer cells to antiandrogen therapy, decreasing VEGF signalling and angiogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRIM24 and TRIM28 are androgen receptor (AR) coregulators which exhibit increased expression with cancer progression. Both TRIM24 and TRIM28 combine to influence the response of castrate‐resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) cells to AR inhibitors by mediating AR signalling, regulation of MYC and upregulating VEGF to promote angiogenesis. Castrate‐resistant
