Binocular mechanisms underlying the processing of three-dimensional visual motion.

open access: yes, 2013
textIn this dissertation, I examine binocular 3D motion processing through a series of psychophysical and neuroimaging experiments aimed at uncovering the neural computations involved and their interaction with the known hierarchy of visual motion ...

Effects of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis on Kinematics and Kinetics of the Lower Extremities Call for Consequences in Physical Activities Recommendations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pediatrics, 2010
Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) patients (n=36) with symmetrical polyarticular joint involvement of the lower extremities and healthy controls (n=20) were compared concerning differences in kinematic, kinetic, and spatio-temporal parameters with 3D ...

Descriptive temporal template features for visual motion recognition

open access: yes, 2009
Copyright © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. In this paper, a human action recognition system is proposed. The system is based on new, descriptive ‘temporal template’ features in order to achieve high-speed recognition in real-time, embedded ...

Specifications and functional impact of a self-triggered grasp neuroprosthesis developed to restore prehension in hemiparetic post-stroke subjects

open access: yesBioMedical Engineering OnLine
Background Stroke is the leading cause of acquired motor deficiencies in adults. Restoring prehension abilities is challenging for individuals who have not recovered active hand opening capacities after their rehabilitation.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Ergodicity of hypoeliptic SDEs driven by fractional Brownian motion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We demonstrate that stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H > 1/2 have similar ergodic properties as SDEs driven by standard Brownian motion.

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

An object-based analysis of cloud motion from sequences of METEOSAT satellite data

open access: yes, 1999
The need for wind and atmospheric dynamics data for weather modelling and forecasting is well founded. Current texture-based techniques for tracking clouds in sequences of satellite imagery are robust at generating global cloud motion winds, but their ...
