Assessing Saccadic Eye Movements With Head-Mounted Display Virtual Reality Technology

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2020
As our society is ageing globally, neurodegenerative disorders are becoming a relevant issue. Assessment of saccadic eye movement could provide objective values to help to understand the symptoms of disorders.

Sleep quality influences subsequent motor skill acquisition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
While the influence of sleep on motor memory consolidation has been extensively investigated, its relation to initial skill acquisition is less well understood.

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Deep Predictive Policy Training using Reinforcement Learning

open access: yes, 2017
Skilled robot task learning is best implemented by predictive action policies due to the inherent latency of sensorimotor processes. However, training such predictive policies is challenging as it involves finding a trajectory of motor activations for ...

Adaptive Timing, Attention, and Movement Control [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Examples of how LTP and LTD can control adaptively timed learning that modulates attention and motor control are given. It is also suggested that LTP/LTD can also play a role in storing memories.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

The Effect of Pairwise Video Feedback on the Learning of Elegant Eye-Hand Coordination Skill

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Sport Science, 2014
The present paper aimed to study the effect of pairwise video check feedback (including the observation of external pattern of skill performance and performing the skill simultaneously) on the learning on acquisition and learning of eye-hand coordination

Emergent modular neural control drives coordinated motor actions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A remarkable feature of motor control is the ability to coordinate movements across distinct body parts into a consistent, skilled action. To reach and grasp an object, 'gross' arm and 'fine' dexterous movements must be coordinated as a single action ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...
