Why emerging leaders should focus on being good postdoctoral supervisors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Swamped with work and suddenly a new student is waiting at your doorstep for supervision? Great—this is your chance! In this article, we share tips on how postdocs can strengthen their leadership skills while supervising students. This image has been created using DALL·E. Many postdocs work as leaders later in their career.

Interlimb Transfer of Grasp Orientation is Asymmetrical

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2006
One the most fundamental aspects of the human motor system is the hemispheric asymmetry seen in behavioral specialization. Hemispheric dominance can be inferred by a contralateral hand preference in grasping. Few studies have considered grasp orientation

An introduction to the constraints-led approach to learning in outdoor education [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Participation in outdoor education is underpinned by a learner's ability to acquire skills in activities such as canoeing, bushwalking and skiing and consequently the outdoor leader is often required to facilitate skill acquisition and motor learning. As

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Beta-alanine supplementation improves time to exhaustion, but not aerobic capacity, in competitive middle- and long-distance runners

open access: yesJournal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition
Background Beta-alanine (βA) is a non-essential amino acid purportedly used to enhance aerobic exercise performance. While previous research indicates the benefits of βA on time to exhaustion (TTE) and aerobic capacity (VO2peak) in adults, evidence is ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Fatigue development mechanisms during increased intensity exertion

open access: yesCentral European Journal of Sport Sciences and Medicine, 2013
During motor preparation, the attention is paid more and more frequently to the complex significance of fatigue in the case of the achieved sport outcome. The complexity of this process has not been utterly explained so far.

Are There Differences in Motor Coordination Among Spanish Primary School Students?

open access: yesJournal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology
Background: Motor coordination is a fundamental skill in childhood. Factors such as age, sex, and regular sports practice influence its development. However, there is little research that jointly analyzes the impact of these factors on the motor skills ...
