Cystatin A promotes the antitumor activity of T helper type 1 cells and dendritic cells in murine models of pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a disease with very poor prognosis due to therapeutic limitations. We investigated the antitumor effects of cystatin A (CSTA) in PDAC murine models. We are first to confirm that CSTA enhances T helper type 1‐mediated antitumor effects through promotion of dendritic cells and M1 macrophage activity. CSTA can be

Emerging Coxsackievirus A6 Causing Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, Vietnam

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2018
Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a major public health issue in Asia and has global pandemic potential. Coxsackievirus A6 (CV-A6) was detected in 514/2,230 (23%) of HFMD patients admitted to 3 major hospitals in southern Vietnam during 2011–2015 ...

Cell‐free DNA aneuploidy score as a dynamic early response marker in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
mFast‐SeqS‐based genome‐wide aneuploidy scores are concordant with aneuploidy scores obtained by whole genome sequencing from tumor tissue and can predict response to ARSI treatment at baseline and, at an early time point, to ARSI and taxanes. This assay can be easily performed at low cost and requires little input of cfDNA. Cell‐free circulating tumor

An Epidemic Model on Small-World Networks and Ring Vaccination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A modified version of susceptible-infected-recovered-susceptible (SIRS) model for the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is introduced. The model is defined on small-world networks, and a ring vaccination programme is included. This model can be a theoretical explanation for the nonlocal interactions in epidemic spreading.

Virus transmission by aerosol transport during short conversations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Pathogens like the SARS-CoV-2 are transmitted not only through violent expiratory events like coughing, but also through routine activities like breathing/speaking/singing. We perform direct numerical simulations of the turbulent transport of potentially infectious aerosols in short conversations.

Etoposide‐induced cancer cell death: roles of mitochondrial VDAC1 and calpain, and resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

Analysis of vocal breath sounds before and after administering Bronchodilator in Asthmatic patients [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Asthma is one of the chronic inflammatory diseases of the airways, which causes chest tightness, wheezing, breathlessness, and cough. Spirometry is an effort-dependent test used to monitor and diagnose lung conditions like Asthma. Vocal breath sound (VBS) based analysis can be an alternative to spirometry as VBS characteristics change depending on the ...
